Um. I embarrassingly spent all of yesterday moping because I finished watching Coffee Prince and didn't have new episodes to look forward to. I am also seriously contemplating doing a rewatch just because it makes me so happy.

Hi, my name is Oyce and I am completely obsessed!

In conclusion, for those of you wondering how in the world I lost my head so quickly, this is an incredibly adorable show. Though I wouldn't quite call it feminist, it does a lot of interesting things with the usual romance tropes. I also love all the characters in it, and though I absolutely ADORE the main romance, the secondary one is also great, which I gather is usually not the case. That, and I love how the show focuses on non-romantic relationships as well.

Also: OMG SO CUTE!

See my new icon? I would totally scribble dorky pink hearts all over this show if I could!

As usual, incoherent babbling below.

2007 TV round up

This year was a strange TV year for me. I feel like I mostly stopped being enthusiastic about American dramas; a large part of this was because of my falling out with Heroes. While I did start watching a few new shows this year, I'm not head-over-heels in love with any of them yet, at least not in the same way I have been obsessing about kdramas.

2007 will probably also go down as the year I got sucked into Asian dramas. I managed to resist for about eight years, too, and then that little thing called Coffee Prince came along...

No spoilers in any of the below; please use spoiler text for any spoilers in the comments.

Shows that didn't work for me

The Collector )

Ugly Betty )

Dr. Who )

The only reason Heroes isn't on this list is because 2007 included some of the great S1 episodes.

Shows that I'm watching but not excited about

Scrubs )

Dead Like Me )

Heroes )

Life )

Blood Ties )

Fantasy Couple )

Snow Queen )

Shows that I'm very excited about!

Homicide: Life on the Street )

Spooks/MI-5 )

Pushing Daisies )

Avatar: the Last Airbender )

So You Think You Can Dance )

Nobuta wo Produce )

My Name Is Kim Sam Soon )

And now, my very favorite shows of the year! It's cheating a little, because I'm not done with either yet, but I am so filled with squee!

Damo )

Coffee Prince )

Huh, looking at all this, I did watch a lot this year. It just didn't feel like it, because for most of the year, I was hopping from show to show to show. I didn't fall into kdramas until Thanksgiving, but wow, I fell hard.

I am now equally dead of the cute and the angst! I have so much love for this series! So much love!

Warning: largely incoherent flailing under the cut.

Spoilers )

Um, so I only have up to episode 17. Is that incomplete? MUST HAVE REST OF SERIES NOW.

I swear, I will actually post something not about dramas some day.

But for right now: SQUEEEEEE!

This was actually the first kdrama I started watching, although after watching four episodes around Sept., I got distracted by other shiny things and didn't pick it up again until now.

Go Eun Chan is trying to support her family after her father has died, though her somewhat ditzy mom and little sister aren't helping so much. Choi Han Kyul is a rich playboy whose grandmother is trying to get married off; in a meet-cute, Han Kyul mistakes Eun Chan for a guy and hires her to be his pretend lover, so as to scare away the women his grandmother sets him up with.

Eventually, Han Kyul is tasked with renovating a coffee shop, ergo the title. The requisite love polygon's other sides are provided by Han Kyul's cousin Han Sung, who knows Eun Chan is a woman and is rather friendly toward her, and Han Kyul's old crush Yoo Ju, who just happens to be Han Sung's ex.

In the first few episodes, I was actually more interested in the Han Sung/Yoo Ju storyline, largely because it starts off with angsty sex. Right now, the incredible angst has dialed back a little, and the show is focusing more on two people trying to get back together after a lot of hurt (Yoo Ju basically dumped Han Sung for another guy). I like second-chance stories a lot, and it doesn't hurt that Han Sung is much less macho than Han Kyul and has a very deep and sexy voice. Also, glasses!

Eun Chan and Han Kyul have your typical sparring relationship, although compared to Jin Hun from My Name Is Kim Sam Soon, Han Kyul's actually rather sweet.

Oh alpha male romance leads, how sick I am of you! Thankfully, Han Kyul's getting much more flustered now, and I just adored the conversation he and Eun Chan have under the trees after apple picking.

In other kdrama news, I just watched the first episode of Snow Queen because of Hyun Bin being scruffy and cute and also they use the "Snow Queen" story and the heroine is cold and icy! It looks like a sob story, but I do not care! I also found this, and Dal Ja's Spring, Que Sera Sera, and Flowers for My Life have now been added to my To Watch list.

Shut up. I am not obsessed. I am not!
