This was actually the first kdrama I started watching, although after watching four episodes around Sept., I got distracted by other shiny things and didn't pick it up again until now.

Go Eun Chan is trying to support her family after her father has died, though her somewhat ditzy mom and little sister aren't helping so much. Choi Han Kyul is a rich playboy whose grandmother is trying to get married off; in a meet-cute, Han Kyul mistakes Eun Chan for a guy and hires her to be his pretend lover, so as to scare away the women his grandmother sets him up with.

Eventually, Han Kyul is tasked with renovating a coffee shop, ergo the title. The requisite love polygon's other sides are provided by Han Kyul's cousin Han Sung, who knows Eun Chan is a woman and is rather friendly toward her, and Han Kyul's old crush Yoo Ju, who just happens to be Han Sung's ex.

In the first few episodes, I was actually more interested in the Han Sung/Yoo Ju storyline, largely because it starts off with angsty sex. Right now, the incredible angst has dialed back a little, and the show is focusing more on two people trying to get back together after a lot of hurt (Yoo Ju basically dumped Han Sung for another guy). I like second-chance stories a lot, and it doesn't hurt that Han Sung is much less macho than Han Kyul and has a very deep and sexy voice. Also, glasses!

Eun Chan and Han Kyul have your typical sparring relationship, although compared to Jin Hun from My Name Is Kim Sam Soon, Han Kyul's actually rather sweet.

Oh alpha male romance leads, how sick I am of you! Thankfully, Han Kyul's getting much more flustered now, and I just adored the conversation he and Eun Chan have under the trees after apple picking.

In other kdrama news, I just watched the first episode of Snow Queen because of Hyun Bin being scruffy and cute and also they use the "Snow Queen" story and the heroine is cold and icy! It looks like a sob story, but I do not care! I also found this, and Dal Ja's Spring, Que Sera Sera, and Flowers for My Life have now been added to my To Watch list.

Shut up. I am not obsessed. I am not!

[livejournal.com profile] rilina informed me, while I was ogling the pretty boys on K-drama box set covers, that K-dramas are largely cancer and incest.

I said, "Well, I don't like cancer, but I love in-- er-- I mean, in fiction."

There's been plenty of cancer, but I've yet to come cross any incest. Otherwise I'd point you in the right direction. Although you probably want JDramas for the incest.

Han Sung's voice is truly swoonworthy, and he should totally wear his glasses all of the them.

I have just started watching Dal Ja's Spring. [livejournal.com profile] thistleingrey also liked it, which I find reassuring. I think I am also going to investigate the one about the athletic village.

I'm watching Dal Ja's Spring, now! But Snow Queen looks like too much of a sob story for me.

I hate to enable people's unhealthy obsessions, but check this out (www.mysoju.com)!

Well, you made me seriously get into KDramas! I blame all your enthusiastic reviews.

Now I want to watch Mixed-up Investigative Agency and possibly Que Sera Sera. And I found a review of Hana Yori Dango (http://www.dramabeans.com/2007/03/hana-yori-dango/) at Drama Beans.

Which reminds me, you have to look at this (http://tatterpunk.livejournal.com/36832.html). It almost makes me want to watch Thank You. Not quite, but almost.

Coffee Prince and Samsoon were my only KDramas, then I got into Damo, and then suddenly everyone was watching all this KDrama stuff, and I was hooked.

I need to start turning people onto JDramas. Their production values are not as high, but they're infinitely more likely to contain Horikita Maki, and I'm in love with her.
