Argh

I've decided to name the new rats Ed and Al! I was really debating between that and Doumeki and Watanuki for a while, but I wanted names that wouldn't be mangled by the vet. And while I thought Doumeki and Watanuki were appropriate, I was trying to train the guys to come when I made a certain noise by feeding them peas. Al picked up on it in about three seconds while Ed would come and somehow not figure out how to get the pea and then try to grab it from Al. Not necessarily entirely in character, but I can totally see them squabbling like the Elrics. And yes, I totally pronounce it "Edo" and "Aru" in my head.

The unhappy news is that though the rat bite swelling from last week went down, it started up again over the weekend. I was just going to try to wait it out, since it wasn't too bad, but I woke up around five this morning and my finger was really hurting and it was so swollen that the skin was taut. Skipped class to go to urgent care, felt like a total idiot for doing so and wondered if I was overreacting, got triaged into urgent care and felt reassured about overreacting, now have appointment to see a hand specialist this evening to see if it needs to be drained. Please have them say no! I fear sharp objects!

Am now armed with antibiotics and Advil.

BAD: One of my transcripts still has not arrived so I cannot mail out second half of application (it is so late because I was stupid and forgot to check the "individual signed envelope" option the first time). I am hoping it gets in tomorrow.

GOOD: I actually met all my writing deadlines for this year! I will now proceed to ignore the rest of applications until 2008, bwahahaha!

BAD: I paid my library fine. It wasn't so bad in my terms ($22.75), but I think it horrified the librarian, as late fees are usually $0.25/day. Also, it may have been because the itemized receipt was over two feet long. I watched as it scrolled from the register... and scrolled... and scrolled. The librarian sternly eyed me as she handed over my books, telling me that ILL fines were $1/day. "Yeah, I know," I said, attempting to not sound too guilty. I feel the fine is not that bad for someone who routinely has fifteen books checked out at any given time.

GOOD: Library holds for Anne Stuart's cold female assassin romance and Robot Dreams and Ha'Penny now in my grubby little hands!

BAD: My car's CD player has broken. I told my car-literate co-worker the symptoms, which elicited a "Yup, it's fried." Not having my own music during my commute is slowly driving me insane! I have the radio, but it is boring! Also, I just made myself a new driving mix and really want to be listening to that instead! Grrr. At least the only CDs stuck in the player were mixes that are saved on my computer.

GOOD: I HAVE $125 WORTH OF AMAZON GIFT CERTIFICATES BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Weekend almost over, yay! Normally I do not cheer the end of a long weekend, but this year, I so am.

Too many people, too much driving, too much wrangling for parking spaces, too much attempting to be on time and not and forgetting assorted things. Also, I didn't even have that much good food, and considering all the nasty parking, I didn't even get that many good bargains.

I have instead overcompensated by spending entirely too much money. Sigh. Must budget better next week.

Loot includes:
- Samsonite luggage set consisting of a wheeled carry-on bag large enough for more-than-overnight-less-than-a-week trips and a duffle bag. $70! I am actually proud of this one.

- Um. Too much yarn. In my defense, some of it is for Christmas presents. Maybe Christmas presents for next year, considering the rate I finish things, but still! Also, I wandered into my local yarn store today to find some gorgeous colorways of self-striping yarns for 70% off! Four dollar yarn! 100% wool! Soft! Beautiful colors! I got Cognac and Lilac Blossoms.

- I bought Angel Sanctuary 13-16 (Eng.) and Nana 16 (orig.) from Kinokuniya. I probably should have waited for AS, but I wanted to read more.

- I nearly bought Night of the Beasts, which I saw advertised in Her Majesty's Dog. I managed to resist and only ended up getting a new Judith Ivory (ok, not new, but a reissued Judy Cuevas I've never heard of) and Rent and Pride and Prejudice (I am strangely fond of Keira Knightley in this one!). I probably shouldn't have gotten anything, but the DVDs were $8 each, and I know they will be comfort movies.

- Have spent too much money on food that wasn't even that tasty. Sigh. Weekend will be over after classmates visit, but hopefully that will be less expensive and more fun, given that it is hot pot, and it is perfect weather for hot pot.

In other news, it's grey and rainy here, and it finally feels like November. Ugh. I think I will curl up on the couch with rats, knit a scarf and watch Rent and sing aloud at the top of my lungs later tonight.

My cute pink flower flip-flops just broke. At work. Thankfully, I have spare flip-flops in the car, but still. I liked them a lot!

Woe.

More woe

As I told someone yesterday, I didn't just have a Monday yesterday. I've been having about two months of Mondays.

The List of Woe )

Stuff to look forward to )

I think I am too tired for advice, though I thank people for the thoughts. I'm dealing ok outwardly, which is to say that things are getting done. I am simply exhausted and out of emotional resources, and there looks like no end in sight.

Am back

Am home. Too tired to have sense of humor. Lost pronouns.

Plane at Chicago was delayed for five hours, due to weather, then air traffic, then weather again. V. v. sick of sitting on airplane, especially in row right in front of extremely angry baby who screamed for the entire time.

Due to plane delay, missed BART to car and was charged exorbitant price by taxi.

Delicious lemon basil vinaigrette from farmers' market broke in luggage, too stupid to put in plastic bag earlier in the day. Am too tired to be raging mad. New book on women authors and their favorite fairy tales found at Room of One's Own (ok, stolen from [livejournal.com profile] heresluck, who really found it) has been stained by vinaigrette. Entire suitcase soaked. Clothes soaked. Hate smell of vinaigrette now.

Showering now so can stop smelling like vinaigrette from aborted rescue mission of books and clothes. At least knitting project escaped unscathed, or fury would be immense.

Gaaaaaaah! To feel productive, I packed more. But since I'm lazy, I didn't want to pack kitchen stuff, which isn't that easily boxable. So... I now have 8 boxes of books in my bedroom.

WOE!

I no longer have shelves and shelves of books double-stacked surrounding me! No more ability to casually browse the shelves!

I pet the remaining three shelves of mass markets that are left, along with my Nana manga.

I feel very naked all of a sudden.

I went, got drugged, left three teeth less.

Aka, I got my wisdom teeth removed (for some reason, I only have three instead of four. I'm not complaining!). The local anesthetic has yet to wear off and the Vicodin has yet to kick in, so hopefully I'm in a good place right now.

I chose to do laughing gas and local anesthetic instead of general anesthetic, mostly because I don't like the thought of being put under, but the place I went to usually does general anesthetic.

The procedure itself was ok -- much pain with the local anesthetic shots, nothing really but pressure when it came to the actual pulling/drilling/whatever was going on in my mouth. It's just the sounds that are incredibly disconcerting! I especially hate the high-pitched dentist drill (having it in your mouth also doesn't make the audio experience better) and the freaky cracking noises. It actually wasn't that unexpected though -- I had two teeth pulled in middle school for braces and it sounded roughly the same.

Alas, no interesting effects from the laughing gas, so no funny LJ entries for everyone.

Though the actual removal went well, there was much to be desired in terms of bedside manner. I was sort of put off the first time I visited because they were so abrupt -- she basically sort of said, "You should have gotten them removed when you had braces" in a very accusing fashion, like it was my fault that middle school me didn't ask for my wisdom teeth to be removed.

Maybe figured they'd be nicer later. So not the case!

I winced and tensed up when the dentist gave me the painkiller shots, and she basically yelled at me for moving and said I should have done the general anesthetic and that it would hurt like bejeezus. And when I was shaking because I dislike being yelled at, particularly when I am in a chair breathing in strange gas and having needles in my mouth, she pretty much just said, "You have to stay still! Or else we'll just put you under!" I got yelled at for pretty much everything.

Halfway through, the gas mask thing got pushed to the side, so I sort of made a noise and asked them to push it back. The reaction was, after pushing it back, "I'm working, don't distract me!"

She'd tell me to open my mouth a little, and I would, and then she'd yell at me for not opening it wide enough or opening it too wide. I mean, seriously, we've all gone to the dentist, right? Who knows exactly how much they mean when they say "Open your mouth a little" or "Tilt your head this way"?! And then afterward, I asked if I should brush my teeth day of -- they'd given me a sheet saying not to rinse, but I wasn't sure if that included brushing or flossing or what. She just snapped at me and said, "Not till the day after! It's all in the sheet" like I was stupid and hadn't read it.

That's how it felt the entire time. And when the assistant asked how old I was after (this is when my mouth is still numb and I have two giant lumps of gauze in there), I showed her on my fingers. And she snapped at me and told me that I had to talk to exercise my jaw muscles!

Ugh. Anyway. If you are in the Bay Area, for the love of god, don't go to Silicon Valley OMS! They are evil! And mean! I mean, I get that they do six bazillion wisdom teeth extractions a day, but this is obviously my first time. And jeez, they could at least ask me to do stuff nicely before berating me like I'm an idiot!

Ugh. Hate them. And have to go back one more time for a checkup too. Will never go back after that.

Blargh. Still sick. Stayed home again in the hopes of sleeping it off, which doesn't seem to be working. Hopefully will feel a bit better tomorrow, as I will have to go into work anyhow.

So sick in fact that the arrival of package from home, complete with the anime of Romance of the Three Kingdoms and the Chinese trans. of Saiyuki is not making me bouncybouncysqueeful, as it would in all other normal circmstances. Not really really deathly sick, just... swollen lymph nodes, coughing, mucus stuck in places mucus should not be, and all in all blargh. In addition, have raging headache and backache from attempting to sleep all day.
