I am back! My not-awful-but-still-not-great travel luck has held, and my flight back was delayed by about an hour, which meant I missed the BART again. This time around, I figured out why my taxi driver last time acted so oddly -- there's $2 charge added to the fare on the meter that I didn't know about. I still do not understand why my taxi driver last time didn't just say that the fare was higher than I thought though, given that I wasn't even paying the full fare.
Oh well.
I got to watch last night's Heroes on the plane, thanks to JetBlue's TV thingum. I will write it up later. It is probably good I watched on the plane, as I was unable to scream at the TV and therefore compensated for the lack of emotional outlet by making myself care less.
I came home to find Bya stepping onto the open rat cage door and promptly freaked out. I saw Ren run under the table to the couch, and I began checking the wires in the room. Thankfully, Ruki stepped on some things and made noise, otherwise he could have been all the way up the stairs for all I knew. Ren looked somewhat confused by being under the couch and didn't try to get out again. I do not even want to know how long they had been out there! Given that there were no holes chewed in the food bag, it couldn't have been that long.
On the linky side,
buymeaclue's got a great post on returning to the things we love, and
rachelmanija is posting an excellent series on A User's Guide to PTSD from the POV of a writer and someone who went through it.
Oh well.

NYC, Days 2-3
Fri, Nov. 23rd, 2007 10:28 pmWe had a relatively uneventful Thanksgiving; we made mashed potatoes and green bean casserole and bought rotisserie chicken and pumpkin pie from Whole Foods. The mashed potatoes went fairly uneventfully, until I decided to add some of the half and half we bought for the green bean casserole. I opened the carton, poured some out, and then heard the plopping noise several very solid bits of cream made.
My sister and I looked at each other. "Uh oh. Is half and half supposed to do that?"
We took turns sniffing at the carton and scrutinizing the December expiration date.
( Further adventures in the kitchen )
Today, I got to see
coffeeandink! We had ginormous, apple-loaded pancakes, corn dogs and tater tots at a diner (I forgot the name, but it had cute colored lights and happy flower wallpaper). We both waxed rhapsodic about the delights of deep-fried food, food on a stick, batter-coated meat, and the wonderful combination of all of the above that is the corn dog ("It's a hot dog! In batter! Deep fried! On a stick!" *blissful sigh*).
Despite all of Mely's attempts to segregate the savory from the sweet, I can now tell you from experience that ketchup and applejacks pancakes do not go together.
( Booking and more fooding )

I have arrived in New York! JetBlue in SFO is pretty nice, since it's in a branch of the international terminal that has very few people and a nice pizza place to boot. That said, I couldn't manage to fall asleep on the flight, and then there was the hour-long subway ride to Manhattan. So far, no real mishaps -- I didn't realize the line I was on was the express, but oh well. Also, I discovered I can knit on the subway on no sleep, luggage and a giant laptop bag in my lap, and little elbow room.
I am very proud of myself for dropping down selvage stitches and fixing them while on the subway as well.
*collapses in bed*
