Giant knitting pictures

The cocoon scarf I made for
coffeeandink.

Details. I made it with KnitPicks Andean Silk in Leaf; it's a nice, soft, squooshy yarn.

Also, the wrong side looks pretty good too! It's stockinette zig zags against purl leaves. My sister actually liked it better than the "right" side.
Giant NYC pictures (mostly food)

Tasty veggie dumplings that me and my sister made! It is now a Thanksgiving tradition. The insides are made with frozen spinach, mi fun (rice noodles), do fu gan (uhhh. firm preserved tofu?), and mushrooms. We ended up making them into potstickers.

Our Thanksgiving feast! From top down, potstickers, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, and rotisserie chicken (Whole Foods made that, not us). Oh, and Martinelli's as a celebratory drink.

And the feast, now with pumpkin pie at the top! Whole Foods made the pumpkin pie as well.

The remainders of the meal after we were full. It's rather sad. We barely even made a dent in the thing! I guess that is what happens when your Thanksgiving consists of two people.

The Mad Hatter tea set at Alice's Tea Cup. The sandwiches are chicken with apple and goat cheese and tea egg salad, and the white thing on the bottom is chocolate mousse. Yum.

Close up of the scones! To the top of the preserves and cream is the vanilla berry scone, then the pumpkin one, then the banana chocolate chip. The pumpkin was too cakey and dry, but the chocolate banana was amazing -- enough crunch on the outside and wonderfully soft and melty on the inside.

Chikalicious! The amusé was spiced pumpkin bits with vanilla gelato. It tasted like pumpkin pie with vanilla ice cream on top.

We both ended up getting the warm chocolate tart with red wine reduction and pink peppercorn sorbet, as the rest of the desserts didn't appeal as much (quince bread pudding, brown sugar panna cotta, poached pear and "cheesecake"). It was amazingly good, and I love how you could taste the pink peppercorns still. It went really well with the port that came with it also. My sister got the sparkling pear drink, which smelled and tasted like apple pie, only fizzy.

The petit fours! Two coconut marshmallows, both of which I ate, as neither me or my sister like dried coconut, but I will apparently suffer through it for homemade marshmallow (I don't actually like store marshmallows, unless they are toasted). Then little almond cookie things with buttercream, and chocolate truffles, which were the Best Thing Ever. As Mely noted some time during the trip, "Best Thing Ever" is really more a category than a designation. I like this idea and have adopted it for my own, since I say every other thing is the Best Thing Ever. But they really are!

The parma ham, porcini and peas penne from Basta Pasta. OMG so good. My sister remarked that she might actually like Japanese Italian better than Italian Italian, and Basta Pasta has about convinced me as well. Not too salty, great flavors, and perfect pasta texture.

My sister's dish -- salmon, spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, and a grain mustard sauce. So good. We ended up boxing a lot, but we made sure to eat all the salmon, as it was perfectly cooked, tender and not too dry.

Cheesecake for dessert! Also, all of this came with a salad and coffee, and the total was $18/person. Yay lunch menus. The cheesecake is an Asian-style cheesecake, which means it is lighter and more cakey, less cream cheese-y. Really good.

Random gorillas seen through a window!

Random giant inflatable rat! I think we are supposed to find it menacing, but I thought it was cute.
Other tasty fooding that I had but forgot to photograph was risotto at Risotteria with
ktempest,
oracne,
littlebutfierce and
coffeeandink. Thankfully, they had vegan risotto options for
littlebutfierce. Mely and I split a three-mushroom risotto (so good! I love mushrooms so much!) and a pesto-mozzarella one. The pesto one was pretty good, but by the end, the mozzarella had unmelted and solidified, making it a little difficult to eat. I'd definitely go back there again, despite the smallness, and am now trying to make my sister eat there, since I can't.

Thu, Nov. 29th, 2007 10:53 pm (UTC)We walked past Chikalicious but there was a big mob, so we didn't go in. I am sad.
I forgot to foodblog our brunch at Stanton Street Social... hmm.

Thu, Nov. 29th, 2007 10:59 pm (UTC)Oh, I am very sad you didn't make it into Chikalicious. We got in right before the giant mob. We still had to wait about an hour (only two groups in front of us too!), but there were, like, twenty people lined up after us.
Oooo blog Stanton Street Social! I went last time I was there and it was so good!

Thu, Nov. 29th, 2007 11:14 pm (UTC)IIRC, the giant rat is owned by the AFL-CIO and travels around to various strikes -- so probably it was for the WGA or the Broadway stagehands, or both.
