Entertain me!
Thu, Dec. 6th, 2007 01:15 pmWhy I love manga, #1:
[edited to correct my bad spelling and other grammar stuff)
Mely: DINOSAURS!
Oyce: I know! I want more dinosaurs! Why is there not a giant subgenre of dinosaur manga?
M: I was so disappointed when they turned out to be metaphorical dinosaurs. I thought the series was going to be about human reincarnations of dinosaur scientists who set up a moonbase.
O: OMG! It so should have been!
M: Well, there is the mpreg human-looking dinosaurs live among us series, but I never got past v1.
O: O_o
O: Wow.
O: And I thought Sex Pistols was the only mpreg human-looking animals living among us series out there.
M: In retrospect, that was somewhat naive of you.
O: Truly, it was.
Why I love manga, #2:
Several of us thinking Nobuta wo Produce was a shounen-sports-take manga on a boy working with all his might to restore a grocery store, when in actuality it is a shoujo-Pygmalionmanga drama.
Suddenly, the "wo Produce" part of the title makes that much more sense ("wo" signifies an object, so it is "Producing Nobuta" sort of a la producing a movie).
Still, I am sad there are no random cabbages or other vegetables of DOOM.
Why I love manga, #3:
RAISED BY PIGEONS!
(Yes! The pigeons still amuse me!)
Your turn! Tell me what has entertained you today!

Thu, Dec. 6th, 2007 09:59 pm (UTC)Anyway, he's talking about ghost hunters in this one section and mentions in passing of the Cornish folklorist William Henry Paynter who zipped about the country in the 1940s investigating hauntings with the Prince Birabongse Bhanubandh, in the Prince's sports car.
IS THAT NOT GENIUS? And it's REAL! It only requires a missing eye and a severed head to be a manga!

Fri, Dec. 7th, 2007 10:49 pm (UTC)And then the hauntings turn out to have been the prince's retinue of dancing girls all along, because they get really, really bored during all the times they aren't appearing out of nowhere to traumatize stuffy British people.

Thu, Dec. 6th, 2007 10:06 pm (UTC)The live action of Nodame Cantabile has filled me with girlish glee. Cracktastic hijinks! Classical music! The retina burning hotness of Tamaki Hiroshi! Did I mention the classical music? The end credits are set to "Rhapsody in Blue."
There is a real lack of menacing vegetables in manga. I'm rather disappointed in the lack of produce in Nobuta wo Produce.

Thu, Dec. 6th, 2007 11:40 pm (UTC)NwP has many, many redeeming qualities though. It's well-acted, and... generally wonderful.

Thu, Dec. 6th, 2007 10:19 pm (UTC)Today was a good find, an otokoyaku being "priestly" and then being pawed up by the forces of darkness (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmK_rVSHitE). Heee.

Fri, Dec. 7th, 2007 01:12 am (UTC)Skip Beat! is the shoujo title that currently owns my heart. One of the big things I love about the series is the strong female friendship between Kyoko and Moko, and the fact that men have nothing to do with their initial rivalry, or their eventual friendship. They don't even talk about men until volume nine!
