Firefly 1x02-1x03
Mon, Feb. 9th, 2004 10:32 pmI love this show!
Did I say Train Job was bad? I take it back! I love the scene at the bar -- Mal's comment on losing because they're outnumbered, Zoe remarking that it's a reenactment, except this time, unlike Serenity Valley, the cavalry (spaceships?) arrive in the form of Serenity! Small and subtle touch that I enjoyed. Plus, there's that awesome moment at the end when Mal kicks the guy into the engine. Not as startling this time around, but during the premiere, I wasn't that entranced by the episode, and that moment made me sit up and realize this was a Joss show.
I don't know why Firefly's hitting so strongly again -- I think it has to do with the fact that they're adults. I love that in Angel too. And while I can see resemblences to Buffy -- Wash as a kind of grown up Xander, Kaylee and Willow, and Simon and early Wes -- the crew are all very much themselves. And I enjoy the fuzziness of the morality and that they're just trying to keep flying. Loved the end of Serenity, when Simon is questioning Mal's good-ish mood: "We're still flying" "That's not much" "It's enough"
And I adore Simon. He reminds me a little of early Wes, not sure of what to do, highly intelligent but without the practical knowledge. And I adore him with River. The moment in Serenity when River stumbles out of the box and Simon tries to calm her down really gets me. I love the entire little sister bit (ergo the giant Dawn-fanness).

Thu, Feb. 12th, 2004 07:10 pm (UTC)I heard some rumor somewhere (Whedonesque? lj syndication is a wonderfully horrible thing) that the Firefly movie script was shaping up to resemble a springboard for restarting the show. I can't bear to give it much credence, but it's such a lovely thought. . . .

Wed, Feb. 11th, 2004 12:35 am (UTC)And whoa, someone who doesn't violently hate Dawn. I thought she was often poorly written, but i never had the hate on for her that so many people did, actually liked her at times and thought she could have been developed into a really amazing character (though i have no particular love for little sister characters as a trope in and of themselves).

Wed, Feb. 11th, 2004 06:42 am (UTC)And I love the little bits like having Kaylee mention the compressor every so often. And Bushwhacked was an awesome episode. Loved the sequence cutting between everyone's interrogations.
I think Dawn had a lot of wasted potential, but I loved her anyway. I think I'm also giantly sentimental about this sort of stuff because I have a little sister, and I loved her scenes with Spike (in S5). Wishing we could have seen that arc they had planned for her before they decided to end Buffy...
