Is LJ very quiet today because of taxes?

Also, now that I am obsessive-compulsively adding a "sequential art" category, as having "manhwa" under "manga" is just wrong, I have come to the conclusion that I blog way too much about manga.

And so, a poll!

[Poll #1171720]

Take it as a given that I am continuing to watch things I have already started. Also, I don't think I'm up for anything too serious right now, unless, of course, it is funnily so, like Snow Queen.

It's very odd googling for manga character names because you forgot them and finding that your own post turns up as #2. It's even odder when two people you read turn up as #1 and #3!

I mean, I don't mind, given that I purposefully set it so search engines could spider my LJ, but it was somewhat disconcerting all the same.

That said, I have decided I need an LJ name that sounds better than "Oyce's LJ."

Fear not! I am not changing user names; just the page title that appears in the browser window title and apparently in search engines...

[Poll #1161143]

... great. I have sat here for half an hour and still only have those three options. Help!

Feel free to write in suggestions for subtitles as well.

So I realized my sidebar was out of date... again! Except I'm reading entirely too many manga series to even begin to list out, so I was contemplating taking out the series links all together and only leaving categorical ones like "shoujo," "shounen" and "manhwa." And then I was wondering what to do with TV shows like Dead Like Me, which I am currently watching, but has been cancelled a long time ago. And I'll probably go through it so fast that there won't even be time to put it in the sidebar.

And then there are the eight million anime series I'm watching.

Help! I am in organizational hell!

And so the only solution lies within a poll!

Books for Taiwan!

I am now starting to panic somewhat, as I have a midterm next week and will be leaving for Taiwan and have not thought about what to pack or anything, woe. Thank goodness I had the presence of mind to call the rat-sitter weeks ahead, so at least that bit is taken care of.

Anyway, forget the stress! Fun stuff! What books should I bring to Taiwan? Since [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija is coming and will be reading some of these, her vote will be weighted.

Usually while travelling, I look for something that's brainless enough for me to read on the plane (past attempts to read all of Genji on the plane were successful but not so fun), but still interesting enough that I don't get bored midway. And since I probably shouldn't chuck books across an airplane, non-sporky would be good as well. But it should also be something I wouldn't regret leaving behind in Taiwan if need be.

Also, please warn me if something is too depressing! Last vacation, I brought Slammerkin to read and suffered nightmares as it is possibly the most depressing book I have ever read.

Oh! And please make comments on your choices! I don't know much on any of the choices below. ([livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija, have you already decided what you're bringing?)

[Poll #921014]

Huh. Apparently my brain thinks pop science is the book equivalent of popcorn.

Sorry, LJ, I am totally spamming you.

But I nearly forgot! I have now been on LJ for four years, yikes.

This post makes 2,129.

And because I can't think of any good content, I will now go with a totally self-centered and navel-gazing poll.

And because I am bored... a poll! Vote on what books I should bring to Taiwan!

Books have been selected because they are books that I will probably not end up reading for a while but still want to read. They also have to be books that I wouldn't necessarily mind leaving behind in Taiwan, and they have to be books that don't weigh two tons, just in case I don't finish them at home and have to lug back with me. And they have to be relatively entertaining so I can concentrate on them in the airplane.

Trip!book selection is indeed a weighty and serious matter.

I've been thinking about making a post (or posts) on depression lately. One will probably be on the experience of being depressed, and one will probably be on the experience of being around someone who is depressed.

I'm still not sure if these posts will be public or not, or how much personal info. I'll be putting in them, but I figured I'd sort of check and see if people were interested.

Ergo, poll!

Sometimes when I reread things I've posted, I wonder why people don't post comments like, "Wow, you are truly very strange."

Actually, I tend to wonder why I don't get more comments and replies to that effect off LJ as well. Because, wow, truly I am strange. Or at least things seem to come out of my mouth (or keyboard?) that are strange.

Anyway. I have learned from the poll that a gratuitous ticky box is 6% more popular than excitable ticky-ness (tickytickytickytickyticky!!!!!).

The truly amazing thing is that "The Infamous Story of Bus #28 and the Tri-Colored Afghan" beat both ticky box options. Maybe having two ticky boxes there split the vote. Also, who knew is would be that instead of more posts on Saiyuki? Truly a surprise victory.

And three people chose "Something else that will be put in comments," but there is only one comment! I feel so betrayed and lied to ;).

I also forgot to put in BPAL reviews as an option. Probably a good thing anyway, as all the mucus in my body has apparently decided to kidnap my nose. BPAL will resume when I manage to wrest my nose back.

More people want to see pictures of my stuffed animals than I realized. Huh.

I succumb to LJ fashion and post a poll.

Actually, I am really bored and want to be distracted from my drippy nose and sore throat.

And because I am completely boring and very narcissistic. Also, I'm a little curious, given that I feel like I haven't been producing interesting content of late.
