WOES! Glitch is closing D: D: D: D: D:

I do not have enough sadface in the world!

I don't even have an icon of Squeegle (my character) yet! I haven't gone fishing! There are swathes of the world I have held off exploring to savor it for longer! (And to avoid crowds.)

I just. People. I have been sucked into bits of the gaming world for the past year or so, and while I loved things like Prof. Layton and whatnot, Glitch was full of happy candy colors and really weird humor and cute animals and awesome sound effects, and it was a pretty reliable destressor that I thought would be sticking around for quite some time. (I just. They were releasing all this cool stuff! I saw more and more people from DW signing up! This is so out of the blue for me. ;__; )

**offers of hugs** Destressors are precious. Sorry to hear this. I only just yesterday or day before saw someone on DW admitting they'd been sucked in and signed up.

Funny thing? I don't think I realized it was a browser game. I thought it was a MMP ORPG w/ a certain art style. Though my click through to look at it was months ago, I think. Does make me wonder how they promoted it. Facebook apparently is all about the casual gaming.

I do wish they'd at least have tried going pay-only (or very limited non-pay). From all the reactions I've seen, people seriously would have paid a subscription for Glitch. I think I would have too, and I'd only been playing for a short while.

It's not just the money, though. It seems that the technical limitations of Flash as a platform also did them in - lag, degraded rendering, lack of mobile support... it all added up to it just not being scalable to the factor they'd need to keep going. :(

Yeah. I guess the whole plan was a bit short-sighted -- it would've been kind of nifty to have had the Flash-based version running and making some income while migrating the game to, say, Xbox Live (with a self-contained mobile version or something like that).

Sigh. Still, they did it. Perhaps someone will take their general model and make something scalable and more enduring, at a time and place where it can run.

So sadfaced. Love that game. It's so mellow.

I just started playing a week ago. I'm so sad; there's so much of Ur I haven't even seen yet! Although I did get to brush foxes today for the first time.

Anyway, I'm making Hooch for the inevitable goodbye parties.

I'm sad, but in a detatched way. Mostly I'm really glad that I never did find the time to get back into it after the reboot. For once my procrastination has benefitted me! XD (I mean, I'm sad that it will be gone, and that I didn't really get to do any new stuff or explore all the new places, but if I was using it as heavily as I was back in the day, yeah...I'd be really down about it.)

And, it makes me sad in a more general way, too, because I am so uninterested in the typical MMORPGs out there. Just, the sort of set-up and gameplay and graphics and everything is just not even the tiniest bit appealing. So Glitch was really different in that respect, and I'm sad that it apparently didn't do that well, because I want more games like that, not more WoW clones... :(

When I saw the news I immediately thought of you and how sad you were gonna be. :(

I am totally bummed, especially since I'm on a very limited playing diet until Nano is over. I guess it'll give me more writing time, though.
