rilina and I were at the library today when we encountered this very memorable cover.

Groping aside, I actually want to read it now!

In other news, I have also bought the Nalini Singh book about shapeshifter condos and the first omnibus for Night World. Whoo! My sister owns Daughters of Darkness and Spellbinder in Taiwan, but now I have my own!

Also, when I was telling rachelmanija and Rilina about shapeshifter condos, they both misheard it as "shapeshifter condoms." Which, of course, actually makes more sense given the romance novel context. Now I am very curious to know if shapeshifters have very special condom needs along with condo needs.

I will let you read that and tell me about it, because I tend to have a Lot of Issues with how romances try to deal with class. They usually fail, and rob-from-the-rich-give-to-the-poor is a particular annoyance....

Not that I haven't liked variations of it. All Through the Night had a formal charity to manage that!

OMG romances so fail with class. I get the fantasy of the ton and etc., but I hate that even contemporaries are chock-full of super rich CEOs and the like.

I don't exactly mind that they're super-rich -- I just don't like the fact that authors rarely deal with the consequences of that. The characters are nice middle-class people who could buy and sell me. Or whatever. And freqently the markers of Niceness are so totally inappropriate to their purported wealth -- being good to widows and orphans is a virtue, yes, but when you can buy the parish, it is not sufficient social responsibility!

I had a rant in pocketgarden about this.

If I graduate and do not start up pocketgarden again, kick me. I think it would be good to start again.

YES. I also hate the "you can tell he is a good person because even though everyone thinks he is of low birth, his wonderful nature proves how he is someone's Sekrit Baby!" Along with the inter-class romances, especially when the lower-class person is the woman, and how no one finds it at all problematic when the hero uses his greater social status and wealth to coerce her into stuff.
