(岑小京 - 騎士公主)
From random online comments, it seems like the series has stopped? Even though volume four has definitely ended on a cliffhanger?
Please note that all my names will be horribly wrong, since I am transliterating from the Chinese and the Chinese is a transliteration of whatever language the author used to make up the characters' names. Chinese is a really sucky language for transliteration, I will just have you know. Also, I returned the books already and forgot to write down everyone's name, as usual. Sigh.
Spoilers for vols. 1-2
So when we last left off, the princess and Yaxi have been kidnapped by the nice prince's country, which has proceeded to label him a traitor. The Guy both the princess and Yaxi like has gone after them, with his dad, his childhood friend Leo, Leo's girlfriend (the princess' maid), and Yaxi's dad Tailun in tow. We then proceed to get a lot of backstory about Leo and the Guy and their childhoods, about Leo and the evil guy's childhoods, as they grew up knowing each other, and possibly other backstory that I forgot.
Cen is a passable manhuajia, and I like that her world has more depth than those of other manhua I've read (though that's not saying much). But her characters and plots feel very shallow: poke them hard enough, and there's not much underneath. So I had a hard time connecting with any of the tragic backstories, when usually I eat up tragic backstories with a spoon. Also, it does not help that all of them were about the guys and their relationships.
On the plus side, the big reveal is that Yaxi has been brainwashed and is now a heartless killer! Or would be, if she killed someone. Then she meets the Guy and suffers from regaining some of her memory! There is angst! It is awesome. And the princess turns out to have the magical power as well, yay!
Sadly, this series has gotten much less interesting thanks to the guys getting most of the attention, even though one of the plot twists having to do with Yaxi had me clapping my hands with glee.
