Urushibara Yuki - Mushishi, vol. 03 (Eng. trans.)
Mon, Feb. 25th, 2008 03:39 pmAgain I bemoan Del Rey's release schedule!
This volume contains the one about the inkstone, the one about the boat in the ocean, the one about the rust, the one about the extra tooth, and the one with the fish.
I continue to enjoy this series, and thankfully the slow release schedule is more tolerable because the stories are all one-offs.
Yay, this one has Ginko's origin story! It's just as creepy and sad as it was in the anime. The part I'm still confused about is if Ginko will eventually turn into a Tokoyami or not, like Nui and the fish.
I also liked that all of these had happy endings. I can't remember if most of them do or not, but it's nice to have some variety in the endings. I was expecting the one about the extra tooth to end tragically in both the manga and the anime, even though I had already seen the anime version before reading this, and I'm still surprised when it doesn't end in disaster.
Also, yay, looks like the mushishi post office will be in the next volume.

Tue, Feb. 26th, 2008 01:24 am (UTC)Even if the Del Rey release schedule's lamentably slow, the cover/paper quality is beautiful and they demonstrate that some manga publishers can do a good job on proofreading. ::eyes Viz sidelong::
Unfortunately, though, the binding on my copy hides some of the text--there seems to be no gutter in the book at all. Or maybe there's s a book-mushi at work...
