Awwww! William's parents are so cute! Though I am sad by how things ended up. And I want to know: do they still love each other? Does he resent her for not being able to handle the stress, even if he knows it's not logical? Do they write to each other?

I very much like that Mori isn't providing a fairy-tale ending to the Jones' story. I like how quietly and slowly things fall apart, how love doesn't conquer all odds, how things like social expectations and whatnot have an effect, no matter how much people try to make them not matter. It's a nice contrast to the usual "Love conquers all!" schtick that annoys me.

But it also makes me afraid of what will happen with William and Emma. I do not know how it can possibly end well! And oh, they are so cute, and part of my love-triangle-hating heart is mollified by the fact that Eleanor isn't in this much.
(but i still want to whap william because dude! not nice!)

Also, I am a total sucker for letters in fiction.

I'm also glad that Mori isn't keeping Emma and William's relationship a secret; part of this is because I detest love stories that involve sneaking around. Another part is just because the schtick of "Oh no! Will they get caught!" gets really, really old.

In conclusion, Emma running toward William and flinging her arms around him is the cutest thing ever.

Unless the cutest thing ever is Mori Kaoru's author notes at the end ("Lace, lace, corsets, stairs, lace, aprons, aprons, glasses, glasses!").

I know that this is an old thread, but....

I recently saw Emma and then hurried to buy all the manga as well...I love it;)
Here are my theories (answers to your questions...)
Yes, I think Richard and Aurelia love each other very much, they really do. I wouldn't be surprised if they both were thinking "Wow, I just really want to be back with you sooo much, but is it what you really want?" I am sure that Richard doesn't resent Aurelia as his wife for not being able to keep up with all the social duties because he loves her so much, but I am sure that part of him is upset that she was unable to. I think he just feels badly that this was, unfortunately, the best decision that could have been made for everyone in the long run. This might be why Richard is so hard on William when it comes to Emma. Never once does Richard tell William that his feelings are unreasonable, just the idea of marriage to Emma. Richard knows exactly how William feels because their situations are very similar. Both fell in love with women that were not perfectly cut out for society life, and Aurelia, though she was from the nobility, obviously did not care much for the lifestyle. This at the time, however, rather than sending a red flag to Richard, enchanted him and he fell for her, just like William did with Emma. I am sure Aurelia and Richard wrote letters and visited each other as well. I would be quite surprised if Richard didn't take a few days off here and there to go up to Haworth and spend time with her...or he might have moved to the countryside after his retirement. (awwwww, now I just went all sappy)

William does need to be whapped. A few times actually. I agree

Sorry this was long. Just wanted to spread the Emma love.

Well...actually I've been working on a few Richard/Aurelia fanfics in my spare time :) :)
I am a sucker for guys that are all gruff on the outside and totally mushy on the inside---must be why I like Richard...
I also love romances reuniting!!
