I also rewatched episode 3, which is still excellent. I am, in fact, planning on rewatching episode 3 tomorrow after I finish my homework as a reward (homework! I have homework! How weird!).
Eeeeeeee! My love of the series is growing exponentially in season 2, which is saying something, given how much I loved this after only five episodes of the first season.
I was a little irked by all the Morita backstory, largely because I wanted more Nomiya/Yamada (I am so OTPing them right now, it's not even funny). But then, I really liked the look into Tatsuo's jealousy of Morita!dad, how it reflects Kaoru's feelings about Morita. The shots of their dad biking away with Morita, leaving poor Kaoru there with bleeding knees killed me.
I have to admit, I am less of a fan of the Rika-Mayama relationship, but that is because I really like Yamada. One of the things that I really like about this season is Yamada getting to know Rika as well and Rika's kindness toward her; Yamada usually isn't petty in action, which is one of the things I really love about her. But oh, Rika. I was wondering if the show would go with the suicide angle, but dismissed it as too dramatic and emo. And yet, the way they did it nearly made me cry, not because it was dramatic and emo, but because of how understated it was, despite Mayama's near breakdown. It was just the way he apologized for losing control of himself afterward, of Rika quietly asking him to sit down and have some tea. I really do like Rika a lot; her entire world has been taken from her, and I can't even begin to think how hard it is to come back from that.
It was nice getting more glimpses into Hanamoto's past with Rika and Harada as well; I'm so glad that the show hasn't forgotten about that. Ditto with Morita and Yamada's strangely confessional relationship. I worry about Hagu, particularly after seeing the snippet of the "next on.." They can't hurt Hagu! I mean, it's Hagu!
And finally: NOMIYA! I am absolutely amazed by how quickly he managed to steal my heart -- I went from grudgingly accepting him as a love interest for Yamada to squeeing pretty much every time he appears. EEEE! Also, I love Yamada and Miwako's trip to the hot springs, how it's Miwako's attempt to cheer Yamada up! And I suppose there could be criticism about how much Yamada cries, but oh, I remember being there emotionally and how devastating it was to know that the person you liked not only is in love with someone else, but that that love is reciprocated and really, all the doors have been closed to you. I am just glad that there are people around her.
Also: NOMIYA! Walking the dog! Just hanging around! Making wry comments about wanting to see her legs! Usually I wouldn't find this endearing, except there's just something in his tone that makes it non-sleazy. So want a Nomiya/Yamada icon, but am afraid that a) it may be spoilery and b) I will spoil myself looking for good screencaps.
