Watase Yuu - Absolute Boyfriend, vol. 01 (Eng. trans.)

oyceterI would just like to note that the cover of vol. 1 is a picture of a clearly naked boy in an opened box, surrounded by tissue paper. The obvious cheerfulness of said naked boy and the strange sweetness of the pink and the tissue paper are pretty indicative of what the manga is like, so far.
In other words: Yes! Watase Yuu has come out with a cute and romantic manga series on sex toy robots! I'd hang my head in embarrassment for liking this, except... ♥♥♥♥!!!!
The cute! It kills!
Izawa Riiko keeps getting rejected by guys and keeps ordering stuff like breast-enhancing machine things through the mail. The two suddenly and fortuitously (sort of) come together when she gets the opportunity to try out the Nightly Lover 1 series.
Enter naked boy. Enter extremely cute naked boy (to be named Tenjo Night) who would be sexy if he weren't so absolutely puppy-dog-like and endearing. Not to say that puppy-dog-like and endearing isn't sexy, but Night is just so absolutely innocent, even when he's whipping his clothes off every other panel.
I think I was howling with laughter every other page because Night would just be like, "Oh no! You feel sad!.... Let's have sex!" and off went the clothes for the umpteenth time. It's just that he was so cheerful about it!
And when Riiko tells him he's got to pretend to not be her boyfriend at school, he asks, "You mean, I can't hug you or kiss you or take off my clothes?"
He also very cheerfully likes standing on top of extremely high things and posing.
And then, of course, there is Soshi, Riiko's next-door neighbor and childhood friend, whose glasses and whose somewhat grumpy yet very cute concern for Riiko had me awwwww-ing uncontrollably. I hug him and kiss him and call him George! I mean.. Soshi!
Sadly, Watase has to bring in a female rival in the series, which annoys the hell out of me. So... I'll probably keep reading if Soshi still gets to feature prominently, but if said female rivalry gets even worse, yuck!
