So I had a very nice Valentine's Day (the first one like that, really), went to NY, ate steak, saw an opera. Then come home to find that apparently my computer has been making weird sounds so my roommate turned it off. I make the boy look at it, and it starts making this horrible scratchy noise and goes to some strange screen where it can't find my boot section or something!! Apparently there is something wrong in my hard drive. And for once I did not do this. Nooooo... it was a bloody mechanical error in a laptop I've only had for 5 MONTHS! I hate this! I knew this computer hated me! It hasn't been working properly from the start and it's brand fucking new. The hell?! !@#@#$!#$@!@##$ And of course OIT is closed today and tomorrow so I can't simply barge in there and MAKE THEM FIX MY LAPTOP DAMNIT!

I'm not good about losing computer access.

And all my Buffy and Angel episodes are in there! All I'm saying is it's a good thing I haven't started writing my thesis yet. Because if I had lost part of that... insanely angry wouldn't even begin to describe it.

And now on to happier, less aggravating subjects.

Baz Luhrmann's production of La Boheme was interesting, especially considering that I absolutely adore Rent and have seen that in the theater twice, as well as memorized the soundtrack thoroughly. It feels extremely Moulin Rouge-like, except without the self-satirical edge that Moulin Rouge had. First, the sets were absolutely amazing, especially in the second act, in the streets of Paris. Also, I want Musetta's New Look-esque red dress. It is a great Red Dress. I might even want it more than the Red Dress in Moulin Rouge. I spend a lot of time looking for just the right Red Dress, and I haven't found it yet. Mine would be bright red, not the dark, red-black color that seems so popular nowadays, and hopefully made of some satin like material instead of taffeta or the fake silk feeling material. Those look kind of tacky. And it can't be one of those straight dresses with no line to the skirt at all. I want a pinched waist corset look with flared skirts. Mmmmm.

And just got very distracted. I thought the singing and all was great, but for some reason I wasn't very emotionally invested in Rodolfo and Mimi. Rodolfo and Mimi don't have very much personality. Maybe it was just the pair singing today, but it was like, "Oh yeah, we're in love now." "Now we can't be together" "Oh dear, you're dying." "Oh, you're dead." I did, however, think Musetta was awesome and completely stole the show, especially in the second act. But I'm still glad I saw it, because the music was absolutely beautiful, and I just loved all the Baz touches, like the huge L'amour sign and the grainy sepia toned portrait of Paris in the background.

Angel 4x12 Calvary

Such a great episode. I knew precisely what was going to happen and most of what everyone was going to say, but still, guh. And the end? When Cordy stabs Lilah in the neck? I still jumped and shivered at her stupid bitch line. I adore Joss. Every time I think the show has sold out on me, like Cordy's entire saint routine, something happens so that I can explain it to myself by saying they might have done this on purpose to show the evilness emulating her very badly. Hated Wes macking on Fred, but that could be seen from a mile away. Also loved the fact that Wes was still trying to protect Lilah. I adore Wes/Lilah. They're the best ship on Angel yet. I probably like them for the same reason I like Spuffy -- the contrasts between good and evil, the battle between self and desire, the possiblity of love existing in such a dark place, etc. I enjoy dark. Which is why Spuffy right now is slightly boring me. More angst needed! But I can see it coming in the form of Wood, so I will wait patiently and trust Joss.

I need to stop getting distracted when I write these things. Anyway, things I liked:
- Wes/Lilah scenes!
- "Why do you think I let him out, you stupid bitch?" I especially loved the delivery of this line. When I read it in the wildfeed, I had expected something angry or full of contempt, but instead Charisma says it very softly, which makes it even more chilling.
- Gunn is finally doing something! Loved the scene with Connor and the soul-eater, very much like old scenes with Wes. Gunn has long needed another fighter guy to bond with.
- Lilah snark. She's like Spike from season 4, or Cordelia of old.
- More Angelus!

Things I didn't like:
- Wes macking on Fred. I don't think I even minded Fred that much this episode because she turned into Scary!Fred from Supersymmetry who builds toasters that chops people's heads off. I want a scary, manipulative, and coldly rational Fred. Not girly, offended Fred.

I think that might have been it, this episode was so awesome. I love my two shows right now! Angel is becoming the beautifully dark, scary, noirish drama it used to be, and Buffy is going back to that wonderful blend of comedy, drama, and horror that it used to be. I can never decide which one I like better, because, me being me, I adore the darkness of Angel, but I love the characters on Buffy. Not so much on Angel right now. And now I will do a useless run down on each character, just because.

Angel:
Angel - varies greatly. I was extremely bored with him on Buffy, liked dorky him. Generally he bores me. Unless of course, he's Angelus.
Cordy - loved her to death before the entire final half of season 3. Adoring Cordevilia.
Wes - adore. Totally. Sissy!Wes and early-Angel!Wes and now Grey!Wes, love 'em all.
Gunn - no real opinion... dislike him when he's being possessive about Fred, but in general, don't really care.
Connor - no real opinion, although sometimes I find his rebellious teen thing a little annoying
Lilah - thought she was boring at first, but now love.
Fred - never really liked Fred.

Buffy:
Buffy - I do like her, even though sometimes I find her a little self-centered
Willow - adore Willow, from geekiness to Darth Rosenberg.
Xander - disliked him in season 6, but after watching earlier eps and these ones, I like him. A good deal.
Giles - really love Giles. Passion was one of the most painful eps of Buffy because of him.
Dawn - I liked her in season 5, and still am fond of her.
Spike - need you ask? Spike is the reason I started watching Buffy
Anya - found her a little annoying at first, but really like her now.

Okay.. done rambling now, and I have accomplished my goal. I will not think about the laptop. I will not. !#&$&@%
