londonkds has much the same problems as I did with
The Incredibles but expresses it ten times better ;).
Here's the original post, with heavy spoilers, along with an interesting discussion in a
later post that led me to the conclusion that many comics seem rather tech-phobic in nature, particularly if the human is willingly using technology to modify himself (see also the sand guy in
Hellboy). Maybe it ties into a rather SFnal theme of the fear of the unclear lines that divide human from cyborg from robot? And another
here with references to "Chosen" in Buffy. And
even more on superheroes from
scrollgirl. May have missed a few links here and there... feel free to drop a note in comments.
ETA: Not on
The Incredibles, but
fannishly also writes in the same vein re: human and technological merging
here. (now
here with added discussion)
ETA2: And now it's an article in the
NY Times (use
BugMeNot).
ETA3:
selenak on
Powers and Principalities, a take on superheroes in a realistic world.
we are weirdly in sync, honey...

Mon, Nov. 22nd, 2004 09:29 pm (UTC)Told my mom about meeting you (actually, I said you overheard me talking about Taiwan in Starbucks, because last time I told her I met someone via the internet, she completely freaked out), and she says she's met you at Sifen's wedding! But that you probably wouldn't remember her, given that she was in a mass of ahyis. LOL.
I'm still amused by the whole everyone-in-Taiwan-knows-each-other thing.

Mon, Nov. 22nd, 2004 10:01 pm (UTC)If she met me at Sifen's wedding, that means that she saw me in the bridesmaid's gown!
I remember now -- there was a whole table at the wedding banquet set aside for the "Hsinchu ahyis," and yes, I did meet them all in a mass. Hee!

Mon, Nov. 22nd, 2004 10:14 pm (UTC)Swarms of ahyis. Seriously. One sort of gets used to them after a while, but it definitely freaked the boy out to meet just a few here. Wait till he visits my house *cackles*
