Non-western fandom friending meme!

Hallo! So I had fun in some of the other DW friending memes going by lately, but I really miss having anime/manga/drama/etc chatter around and wanted to rectify that.
I am not particularly sure how these things work, but here is a random list of questions for people to fill out if they want:
1. Username(s):
2. Language(s):
3. Past (non-western) fandoms:
4. Present (non-western) fandoms:
5. What you like to blog about:
6. Random thing about yourself:
Go forth and subscribe! (Also, publicizing this highly welcome.)

Mon, Jan. 28th, 2013 06:13 pm (UTC)2. Language(s): Primarily English, though someday I will polish up my Mandarin! Also rapidly forgetting the bits I know of Japanese and Korean.
3. Past (non-western) fandoms: Saiyuki, Gundam Wing. (Oh Gundam Wing! Such crack!) Also love Utena, Princess Tutu, Ouran, Fruits Basket, Skip Beat, Yazawa Ai, Fullmetal Alchemist (don't spoil me, I need to finish) and a ton of shoujo. I eventually mean to finish You're Beautiful and watch Sungyungwan Scandal, and maybe some day I will actually watch Goong! Haven't been so much into jdramas, though I mean to watch Gokusen one of these days. Also, CB's mom sicced Jodhaa Akbar on me, and it has reminded me of the large list of Bollywood movies I intend to watch.
4. Present (non-western) fandoms: /o\ I'm sadly not active in anything right now and trying to catch up on the past four years or so of stuff, ergo the meme! Mostly am interested in more shoujo and dramas, and eventually I want to start reading wuxia books (in translation? do I dare try the original Chinese?). I'm currently in the middle of Baccano! and very confused.
5. What you like to blog about: Hahaha, books. Though in part the meme is to try to get myself to get back into non-western media.
6. Random thing about yourself: Er. I still adore stuffed animals, and currently one bedtime companion is a large stuffed penguin named Burrito J. Pennyworth, aka Mr. P.

3. Past (non-western) fandoms: Rurouni Kenshin, Shin Angyo Onshi, The Breaker, Blade of the Immortal... Look, just a lot of manga & manhwa! I keep a list here. I am very much a shounen, seinen, action, and martial arts type of gal.
4. Present (non-western) fandoms: One Piece, Claymore, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
5. What you like to blog about: books, manga, anime, gardening.
6. Random thing about yourself: I have a tiny mole on the sclera of my left eye.

Mon, Jan. 28th, 2013 06:32 pm (UTC)1. Username(s):
2. Language(s): Only English, alas!
3. Past (non-western) fandoms:
anime - Princess Tutu, Fullmetal Alchemist (manga and Brotherhood anime), Revolutionary Girl Utena, Baccano!, Twelve Kingdoms, Ouran High School Host Club, Durarara!, Mawaru Penguin Drum (WHAT EVEN WAS THAT), more that I'm sure I'm forgetting
manga - 7 Seeds, Skip Beat!, Gokusen, 20th Century Boys and most other Urasawa stuff, Claymore, Pumpkin Scissors, Basara, Yotsuba&!
dramas - Capital Scandal, Sunkyunkwan Scandal, Legend of the First King's Four Gods, You're Beautiful, Coffee Prince, Gaksital (sort of) (it's complicated) (very complicated)
4. Present (non-western) fandoms: I'm not sure what the distinction is between past and present, but I'm currently rewatching Princess Tutu, in the middle of a (very slow) first-time watch of Haibane Renmei, actively reading 7 Seeds (SOMEONE COME TALK TO ME ABOUT 7 SEEDS IT IS MY FAVORITE), Claymore, and Skip Beat! (about which my feelings are very ambivalent right now), and also in the middle of watching through Gaksital, Arang and the Magistrate, and Faith. And also still talking a lot about Capital Scandal because ALWAYS. I'm also trying to watch more Bollywood films after seeing a few this summer and loving them.
5. What you like to blog about: Mostly media! This is mostly books because I consume those the fastest, but I try to write up most of what I consume.
6. Random thing about yourself: I REVERT TOO EASILY TO ALLCAPS.

2. Language(s): English (native), Japanese (decent but not what it could be), bits of Korean from watching K-dramas
3. Past (non-western) fandoms: Sailormoon, Gundam Wing, Evangelion, Studio Ghibli films
4. Present (non-western) fandoms:
Anime/manga: Master Keaton, Hetalia, Utena, Princess Tutu, Kara no Kyoukai, Eve no Jikan, [C]: The Money of Soul and Possibility, Genshiken (and Genshiken Nidaime), Toshokan Sensou, To Aru Kagaku no Railgun, various mahjong series like Saki and Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku
Live-action: Capital Scandal, Sungkyunkwan Scandal, various Japanese films (e.g., Thirteen Assassins, Warai no Daigaku)
5. What you like to blog about: Books, travel, fic-writing, miscellaneous geekery that usually involves whatever historical reading I'm doing
6. Random thing about yourself: I wrote a conference paper about Master Keaton and got it published as a srs bsns book chapter, and am very proud of it!

Mon, Jan. 28th, 2013 07:10 pm (UTC)2. Language(s): English. I don't think my Spanish, after all these years of not using it, is up to anything serious. The words have gone.
3. Past (non-western) fandoms: I've written Weiss Kreuz (I'm still writing in this fandom, so it maybe should count as a present fandom), Clover, Nightwalker, Seirei no Moribito, Naruto (manga only, and I've recently given up on it because I don't care about the big fights any more), Legal Drug, Ranma 1/2, and InuYasha. I'm currently rewatching Princess Tutu and Cowboy Bebop. I'm fond of Rurouni Kenshin (looking forward to seeing the new movie!), Haibane Renmei, Slayers, the Lupin III movies, Nazca, R.O.D., Utena, Shamanic Princess, Full Metal Panic (particularly FuMoFu), Trigun (anime only. I can't follow the action of the manga), Ayatsuri Sakon, Saiyuki, Yami no Matsuei, and Planet Ladder. I've enjoyed some wuxia, but I can't remember any of the titles but Romance of Red Dust. I know there have been others. I loved what I saw of Dae Jang Geum, but Netflix only had the first series (seventeen or eighteen episodes and ending with a cliffhanger). I think that's changed, so I'll be watching more soon.
4. Present (non-western) fandoms: I'm not sure I have any beyond, possibly, Weiss Kreuz. I haven't watched anything much new recently. I'm always interested in recommendations, particularly if they're things that Netflix has (Netflix's lack of Chinese and Korean TV shows really frustrates me). I haven't managed to get myself to do anything with Hulu or Crunchyroll yet, beyond bookmarking them. I tend to be a slow adapter.
5. What you like to blog about: I mostly blog about my everyday life, my daughter and my husband. I sometimes talk about what I'm currently writing. I do occasional DVD and book logs (those are tagged). I do fic announcements five or six times a year but don't post my fic to my journal (it's at AO3,
6. Random thing about yourself: I tend to prefer stories with elements of science fiction or fantasy or conspiracy but can't tolerate horror very well.

Mon, Jan. 28th, 2013 07:10 pm (UTC)2. Language(s): English (I have a smattering of fangirl Japanese)
3. Past (non-western) fandoms: Revolutionary Girl Utena, Yami no Matsuei, Full Metal Alchemist, Haibane Renmei, Niea_7, Seraphim Call, Final Fantasy (esp 7 & 9), Suikoden (the whole series), the Swordsman movies (Swordsman, Swordsman II, The East is Red), the Chinese Ghost Story movies, Star Blazers (still haven't managed to see it in the original form)
4. Present/recent (non-western) fandoms: Takarazuka, Shin Megami Tensei Persona (1-4), Black Butler, Sekai-Ichi Hatsukoi and Junjo Romantica, Journey to the West, masala movies like Dhoom II and Main Hoon Na, trying to get into Bodacious Space Pirates and a few others on Crunchyroll
5. What you like to blog about: Too much boring personal stuff. Though I have a superhero world web serial, which is both less and more personal.
6. Random thing about yourself: I write for a living. And then I go home and write at night. People don't understand how I can do this. Neither do I.

Mon, Jan. 28th, 2013 08:12 pm (UTC)2. English
3. Anime & manga of various sorts and some jdramas. Ummmmmm...Nobuta wo Produce, Fullmetal Alchemist, Prince of Tennis are the things I've probably posted most about?
4. Kdramas! Though I am behind on watching things. I'm behind on watching and reading basically everything lately, not just kdramas though. Anyway. But Hong Gil Dong, Painter of the Wind, Capital Scandal are the ones I've posted most about. I also really like the webcomic Hero: http://invisiblecities.comicgenesis.com/ Which is in English, FYI. I watch documentaries and other foreign films, as well, though I don't always post about them. Basically I am saying these are present fandoms because I either have vidding projects I want to do with them or because they are the things I am currently reading/watching, sort of. But, again, super behind on everything. I have a list of things to watch/catch up on that is miles long.
5. (I am answering this as both what I like to blog about AND what I like to read about.) I tend not to blog much and when I do it is typically about vidding and/or how I don't blog much. I am also a very shy commentor. I sometimes post about music and cooking, which I feel are fandoms of mine, but that also don't really fit into the mold of fandom-at-large. For the past ... a really long time ... cooking has been the one constant positive creative outlet for me, whereas vidding and writing comes and goes. I'm always on the lookout for new music and cooking posts. I'm also usually on the outlook for more vidding posts, but since my fandoms don't always match up with popular vidding fandoms this is a bit more haphazard.
In general I love vids, I love sci-fi/fantasy, I love awesome female characters, I love meta analysis. I try to focus on the things I love in fandom, even though some of those things, like vids and meta, might, themselves, focus on problems that I don't love in source texts. If that makes sense? Possibly it does not. IDEK.
Relevant to this friending meme: I'd love to expand my musical knowledge of non-English and non-western music, for both personal listening pleasure and also because I've love to expand my repetoire of vidding songs -- ngl, I basically just want to find the perfect vid songs for both Painter of the Wind and Hong Gil Dong. I also love reading about food, cooking, and different cuisines and cooking techniques. I'd love to find someone who is a vidder who loves kdramas and would be a cheerleader for both vidding kdramas and watching kdramas.
In a blatant ploy (that might even be relevant to this friending meme? Maybe? Possibly? Who knows?!) to get people try to find my vid and comment on it: if you can guess what vid I made for festivids I will make you something.
6. I am currently semi-obsessed with reading money blogs; despite issues I have with The Awl, my current favorite money blog is The Billfold because it is non-judgemental and Mike and Logan both sound like they could be friends of mine and I think they play off each other really well, though some contributors are a bit too ... idek, "lalala class priveledge, I has it". But I still like it, because, see above, non-judgemental. I am also currently reading the book Debt: the past 5000 years which is interesting so far, if only because I am at the point where he is like: guys, listen, let me tell you HISTORY and how no one seems to be paying attention to the shit that actually went down. I also like that he is pretty global in how he discusses the history of money/debt/the economy/etc. It's not just "hey Europe did this, America did this". But I'm also not enough of a econ/anthropology/history buff to know how much I should take with a grain of salt.

Mon, Jan. 28th, 2013 09:36 pm (UTC)2. Language(s): English, although I just started learning Japanese & will likely post about my efforts
3. Past & Present (non-western) fandoms (idk how to separate these!!): FF7, FF12, FF Tactics, Persona 4 (I've not beat this yet), Sailor Moon (all iterations), NANA, Cardcaptor Sakura, Fullmetal Alchemist, Sand Chronicles, Tramps Like Us, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Evangelion (anime iterations & main manga series. NO at other manga series -_-), Escaflowne, Black Lagoon, Princess Tutu, Love*Com, Honey & Clover, K-ON!, Tari Tari, Ghibli movies
5. What you like to blog about: Public posts = discussions of books/TV/anime/etc. - storytelling sources. Also sometimes political, some recipes, etc. Private posts = more frequent, more personal. Stuff about my life, work, bad/sad things, etc.
6. Random thing about yourself: EHM. I like shoujo. Lately I've also been drawn to a lot of sienen moe shows depicting "girls hanging out," & trying to figure out what moe "means," etc.

Tue, Jan. 29th, 2013 12:34 am (UTC)2. Language(s): English is all I have any claim to fluency in.
3. Past (non-western) fandoms: I'm going to define this as fandoms I used to be active in or fandoms I might read/watch fanworks in if they showed up on my flist? For movies -- Asoka, Om Shanti Om, and Chak De! India are the ones I've tried to get other people to vid for me recently. (I don't try to watch SKR movies, it just happens. I swear I have seen other movies. They almost all have Kajol or Hrithik Roshan, BUT STILL.)
The rest would be mostly anime -- Seirei no Moribito, Darker Than Black, some of Yuu Watase's and Kaori Yuki's work, Madoka (I have mixed feelings though), Mai-HiME (well, and this...), Mawaru Penguindrum (I have united feelings of "AHHH WTF"), Gundam Wing badfic, Angel Beats, I guess maybe Railgun but I have mixed feelings about that too. Saiunkoku. Uta-Kata? These days I mostly keep track here when I'm paying attention.
4. Present (non-western) fandoms: Fandoms I'm actually vidding or writing in or may vid/write in ANY DAY NOW:
Revolutionary Girl Utena is an old favorite forever. Haibane Renmei is a new favorite! I've also finally figured out how to acquire kdramas, so I'm catching up on shows I've been curious about for years. Capital Scandal, Sungkyunkwan Scandal, and Arang and the Magistrate are my favorites right now. (I'm still about halfway through Arang.) Recs are welcome! I may someday watch something that is not historical. Maybe.
I'm usually not active in a ton of fandoms at once. When I am active, I'm usually more into vids and vidding than fic and writing.
5. What you like to blog about: Vidding mostly, I think, and whatever I'm watching. I write fic maybe once every few years if I am to be scrupulously honest.
6. Random thing about yourself: Sometimes I dream about waking up and making breakfast and taking a shower and then I actually wake up and I'm incredibly annoyed that I have to do it all over again. Other times I dream that I'm a ghost or that I have a free-standing freezer and vending machine in my bedroom! Much better.

Tue, Jan. 29th, 2013 12:38 am (UTC)2. Language(s): Only English.
3. Past (non-western) fandoms: Like others, I'm not entirely certain what it means. I've consumed so much manga, manhwa, anime, jdramas, kdramas and cdramas that I could list a dozen favorites and then edit ten times with OMG HOW COULD I FORGET>>>. For kdramas and cdramas, I prefer the sageuks and wuxias, and I tend to like the romance and mystery jdramas. I also like some comedy jdramas, but sometimes they get too OTT for me. For anime and manga, some favorites are Blade of the Immortal, Basara, Twelve Kingdoms, Princess Tutu, Rurouni Kenshin, Skip-Beat, Full Metal Alchemist, Samurai Deeper Kyo, and Claymore. I'm also generally fond of Kaori Yuki, Clamp and Arina Tanemura series, despite their problems.
4. Present (non-western) fandoms: I hqaven't really looked for fandom outside my reading lists for these, but recently I've binged on Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun,
Inu x Boku and K Project animes, Boss 2 for jdramas, and Arang and the magistrate for kdramas. For cdramas, I've been sloewly watching Legend of the Condor Heroes 2008, The Spirit of the Sword, Chinese Detective, and Holy Pearl. The first 2 I watch whenever Netflix sends me a disc, and the other 2 are based on when subtitles come out. I also like Bollywood a lot and have enjoyed the few South Indian films I've seen.
5. What you like to blog about: Mostly things I read and watch. Making icons also relaxes me, so I have a lot of icon posts.

4. Present (non-western) fandoms: (Still!) Hikaru no Go, Kuroko no Basuke, Kpop Star, historical K-dramas (fusion and non-fusion, of which the latest infatuation was Arang and the Magistrate)
5. What you like to blog about: Mostly links and signalboosts, occasional reviews of media consumption, (more recently) the weekly reading meme, complaining about offline life under access lock
6. Random thing about yourself: I didn't list them as fandoms due to the fact that I don't often blog/make fanworks for them, but I am also very fond of wuxia, Wong Kar Wai and what Bollywood films I've seen (esp. Chak De! India and Dil Bole Hadippa).

Several finished series that I read: Kekkaishi, 20th/21st Century Boys, Monster, ARMS (no one even knows this series exists, apparently), a few Adachi Mitsuru titles, Fullmetal Alchemist, Whistle, Tennis no Oujisama, GetBackers (with the exception of a few volumes).
Wuxia: Jin Yong, Liang Yusheng series (Paladins in Troubled Times, Seven Swordsmen).
4. What you like to blog about:
Links, writing-related stuff, fangirling. Sometimes I muse about privileges (mine and others').

4. Present (non-western) fandoms: I am the most diehard Bollywood fan. I've seen it all. I pretty much watch 5 movies a week at this point. :P And I've been getting pretty serious about Kpop since 2011. Sailor Moon is getting a reboot so I'll prob go nuts for that when it returns. :) I'm still a fan of Pokemon and plan to play the next gen of games.

3. Past (non-western) fandoms: I was sucked into anime & manga only late last year by a combination of id-chasing and people terribly good at taping my eyes open, so the world is still my oyster. Spirited Away? Zhang Yimou films?
4. Present (non-western) fandoms: Revolutionary Girl Utena, Loveless, Hyakujitsu no Bara | Maiden Rose, tropes & narrative kinks in general
4b. Possible future fandoms-- canons I'm currently or hoping to be consuming soon: Black Lagoon, After School Nightmare, Princess Tutu, Durarara!!, or [help me conduct an affair with new fandoms with intense dysfunctional relationships and/or femslash potential and/or careful worldbuilding]
5. What you like to blog about: Flail (media reactions, textspam, rambling meta, occasional fic) and the even more occasional, locked snippet of my offline life. I shepherd my teal deer (tl;dr) from pasture to pasture, enjoy playing with both interpretations that coincide with and that challenge my own, and comment on a wider range of subjects than I can possibly post. You should probably be forewarned that this is appallingly wrong is no deterrence to my fannish interest. *g* I've been a lurker in journal-based fandom for years, and I'm always fascinated by how other people Do This Thing.

3&4. Past/present (non-western) fandoms: I don't create many things, but enjoy reading meta, fanworks, and making comments! So these are some things I really liked:
- Games: Final Fantasy series (primarily FF8)
- Animanga: Skip Beat!, Princess Tutu, Fullmetal Alchemist Kimi ni Todoke, Eve no Jikan, Silver Spoon. Currently hooked on Psycho-pass.
- Korean Dramas: I mostly tend towards historical or romance. Of the 2012 series, I really enjoyed Queen In-hyun's Man, Shut Up: Flower Boy Band, and Arang and the Magistrate! Older: My Name Is Kim Sam-soon.
- Used to watch a lot of wuxia in my childhood; would really like to get back into watching that, and more c-dramas/movies! I really enjoyed Mulan (2009).
5. What you like to blog about: Drawing, food, personal/political issues, some fannish things. Under access lock I write about my life.
6. Random thing about yourself: It doesn't quite show here, but my favourite thing to read is scifi/fantasy.

Tue, Jan. 29th, 2013 03:25 pm (UTC)2. Language(s): German, English, French, slowly nearing being able to have an actual conversation not about monkeys in trees in Japanese
3. Past (non-western) fandoms: Dragon Ball Z was my introduction to fandom over 10 years ago. Since then, there have been D.Gray-Man, Ouran High School Host Club, Hikaru no Go, a brief fling with Gackt fandom before I noticed that the man may be brilliant and pretty but he's also kind of an asshole, plus many anime and manga that I would love to read fic for but couldn't find any.
4. Present (non-western) fandoms: Vocaloid, Utattemita, Piko (I'm also somewhat interested in Visual Kei, though I wouldn't say a fan yet), more Anime (No.6, AKB0048, Sword Art Online, K, Shin Sekai Yori, Zetsuen no Tempest, Madoka Magica), crossdressing manga (basically anything translated by Hachimitsu Scans), Junjou Romantica, Sekaiichi Hatsukoi etc (when I can see anything between facepalms, because DEAR AUTHOR I WISH YOU WOULD DISPLAY THE SLIGHTEST AWARENESS THAT THESE PEOPLE ALL HAVE TRUST ISSUES UP THE WAZOO AND HAVE APPARENTLY NEVER HEARD OF CONSENT although it does make for plenty of tasty UST)
5. What you like to blog about: long silences punctuated by random squealing about slashy pairings. Unless I have specific projects, like that introduction to Vocaloid I did just before the Vocaloid 3 release (which could really do with an update for all the new voice banks that came out since!), or the running translation of Piko's blog I did last year that I've unfortunately had to give up for lack of time.
6. Random thing about yourself: Despite my main fandoms being ALL ABOUT MUSIC these days, I am actually tone-deaf as hell and can't even read notes.

Tue, Jan. 29th, 2013 04:27 pm (UTC)2. Language(s): Finnish (native), English, Swedish, German (though that one has gone pretty rusty from non-use) and a smattering of Korean (I understand way more than I can speak).
3. Past (non-western) fandoms: Same as present... I think....
4. Present (non-western) fandoms: Dramas - mainly Korean but I do watch j-dramas, tw-dramas and some mainland China ones too. Generally I prefer the more angsty stuff e.g revenge/action/crime/procedurals, historicals + some melos but also well made long, family/weekend dramas and slice of life. Romcoms are usually not my cup of tea (they tend to bore me) but if it's a proper romance, it may get a 'pass'.
5. What you like to blog about: About dramas I watch/watched, LOL! There are quite a few music posts too... I like k-pop, so sue me. ;P Oh, and some random RL posts (locked) every once in a while.
6. Random thing about yourself: I like to sing along while listening to music.

Fandoms: Putting it into one thing, because I don't tend to create a hell of a lot in my fandoms, but I like these things: Claymore, Fullmetal Alchemist, 20th Century Boys, Sungkyunkwan Scandal, Capital Scandal, Gaksital, Red Cliff. Currently watching Twelve Kingdoms, and 7th Grade Civil Servant, because I loved My Girlfriend is an Agent
