Hallo! So I had fun in some of the other DW friending memes going by lately, but I really miss having anime/manga/drama/etc chatter around and wanted to rectify that.

I am not particularly sure how these things work, but here is a random list of questions for people to fill out if they want:

1. Username(s):
2. Language(s):
3. Past (non-western) fandoms:
4. Present (non-western) fandoms:
5. What you like to blog about:
6. Random thing about yourself:

Go forth and subscribe! (Also, publicizing this highly welcome.)

skygiants: Princess Tutu, facing darkness with a green light in the distance (bang bang)

My roommate and I started watching it for that very reason! (And because the character of Gaksital is a costumed superhero for the resistance and my roommate likes costumed superheroes.) And now we're still watching it because . . . we're still watching it . . . and we can't stop . . .?

It's WAY DARKER AND MORE DEPRESSING than Capital Scandal, though. Like, it starts out like Capital Scandal if the protagonist were Lee Kang Gu?! (His name is actually Lee Kang To!) So he's essentially terrible and then he starts getting a redemption arc via the path of a ton of trauma and tragedy, and meanwhile his best friend, who starts out as a sweet kindergarten teacher, is having the reverse arc and accelerating rapidly towards the dark side. There are a lot of awesome women doing awesome resistance things around the edges, and it's a very well-crafted and intense and stylish show (and clearly has a much higher budget than Capital Scandal ever did), but it's also . . . I mean, aside from all the manpain, at this point pretty much every episode spends at least ten minutes in the police station torture dungeons. SO.

It definitely is more interested in the politics than Capital Scandal was -- like, the main bad guys are a secret Japanese cabal who are trying to move Japan even more towards imperialism, and you can read a lot of really interesting stuff about privilege and entitlement and nationalism into the kindergarten teacher's Arc of Evil (he's Japanese but begins as a pro-Korean ally.) But that does not necessarily make it easier to watch . . .

It is fun to compare it to Capital Scandal though! We have decided that this is the revolution that Geun Duk really wanted to be part of. Everyone is srs bsns and no one has any rom-com hijinks at all! HIS DREAM.

[personal profile] skygiants' roommate here.

The torture is present and shown on screen, but is definitely not shown for the fun of showing torture.
