I do wish that there were more women Korra's age around; she feels a bit like the isolated girl surrounded by men.

YES. I'm curious to see how the pacing goes. In ATLA the main trio meets in the first 5 minutes. Here, Korra doesn't even really meet folks her age until the second episode, and it's not quite a comraderie yet.
