While shelving the business section today, I came across the 1996 version of Dress for Success for Women. Being curious, I flipped it open, and it fell right to a page in which the author advises all women to wear skirts to work unless absolutely necessary. He says this because much research shows that men have problems taking orders or listening to women in pants.

1996!!

WTF?!

Grrrrrr. I am of half a mind to take that book and bury it somewhere in the store where no one will ever see it.

You know, I keep hearing advice like that, especially about court work. "Never appear in front of a male judge in a pants suit" is something drilled in to us in uni. Yet I've done so on multiple occasions and never suffered any consequences. I'm yet to be convicned that most men even notice ...

Really? Wow.

I was surprised too because I've always had an impression that pants suits just looked more professional. I guess I can blame that on Ally McBeal ;).
