Black & White, ep. 07-13
Sat, Aug. 15th, 2009 09:07 amI am completely not caught up on LJ or DW so have probably missed a ton.
My dad actually watched one episode of this without me, so I guess he is somewhat interested!
However, when I told him it was set in Kaohsiung, he said, "How come no one speaks Taiwanese then?"
It's also very odd (to say the least) watching a show set in southern Taiwan with news of the typhoon.
Spoilers have no respect for other people's angst
The plot thickens! And we finally find out who's behind Chen Zai Tian's new face!
I am partially annoyed at the villains being connected with North Korea, but I keep thinking they have Korean villains because it's fashionable to have Korean in dramas, thanks to the huge popularity of kdramas here. Also, I know next to no Korean and even I can tell their accents suck.
I rolled my eyes so hard at Chen Zai Tian the stalker, and I am particularly irked that the show rewards his creepy stalkery behavior by having the girl go out with him. I also totally called her being woman-in-refrigerator-ed about three seconds from the building blowing up, along with the San Lian Hui killing the police informer.
DAD: You've seen this before!
ME: Uh, no. Action movie logic!
I have to say, I am not very fond of Chen Zai Tian at all! I would have laughed and laughed at his moping around after his not-girlfriend was killed, from his randomly stealing beer from people to his completely laughable statement that she was the only thing that was real. And I am totally with Ying Xiong being mad at him for never even bothering to find out where the money was coming from! Especially when one trace put the fax number to San Lian Hui!
Chen Zai Tian understandably wasn't questioning stuff too much, but given that he's a police officer, not some random guy on the street anymore, he has more responsibility.
I also like that Ying Xiong keeps doing his job while Chen Zai Tian is letting his angst o'erhang him like a hat. As such, I am very sad that Chen Lin is his Designated Love Interest, since she is too cool for him.
She unfortunately has not gotten to beat anyone up again, and she's now being threatened due to her dad. And there have been a few too many caring speeches about the rather useless Chen Zai Tian for my taste. But at least she managed to get out of the elevator by herself instead of being rescued! And I like that her solution to everything is to bring more alcohol.
Also, they have now brought in the Taiwan Department of Defense! I am so confused re: the plot. It doesn't help that I watch at night when I am jetlagged. Still, my current theory is that Xiao Ma and the woman reporting at the DoD are both working with the black-outfitted gun people. Maybe.
I also can't quite tell if Xi Ying is the mole in the police department or not! She did have a secret meeting with some guy, but did he just thank her for the information about the gun, or did she actually give him the gun?

Sat, Aug. 15th, 2009 01:54 am (UTC)I think everything about how people treat Chen Zai Tian can be explained by Vic Zhou's face. I hope he's grateful to that plastic surgeon.

Sat, Aug. 15th, 2009 02:00 am (UTC)Have you watched more yet? I am so sad the possessed-looking Kingone has not shown up again!
I think my favorite moment of the show so far was when Xi Ying stared at Chen Zai Tian and said, "Wow. Your face... it's so symmetrical and beautiful!" BWAHAHAHA! Good someone noticed!

Wed, Aug. 19th, 2009 03:08 pm (UTC)And the OMG Corruption kind of just... keeps going. I am a little amazed at how much there is right now!
Also, the plot frequently makes no sense. But I keep watching b/c I like Mark Chao's character, it is shiny, and I want to find out what happens. Also, I laugh cruelly at Zai Zai's angst.
