Back at home in the US!

It's very odd. I haven't had culture shock going back to CA in quite some time, largely because I haven't been away for all that long. But when I was in the airport, I was all, "Whoa! People speaking English to me! Lots of non-Chinese people around! Must readjust!" And it's even odder being back at home, as clearly I didn't bother to clean before I left. I can't remember where anything is, and I have two months of mail piled up. I now sort of miss being a complete bum and letting my parents arrange everything, although I was getting a little tired of it in the last week.

It's also very odd remembering how to eat in CA—my sister's here, and we basically run through a list of different types of cuisine to figure out what to have for each meal, whereas in Taiwan, it was pretty much "Chinese, Japanese or Western." And oh, it is so odd yet good walking outside and having it be dry and cool instead of hot and humid!

Sigh. Not looking forward to unpacking or catching up with assorted errands. On the other hand, I have my rats back! OMG I missed them so much! They are even fatter than I remember, which I did not think possible!

Whenever I got back from Taiwan, my reaction was always "Eek! Where did all these white people come from?" I felt like I was on a Hollywood movie set.

There is at least one really good Indian restaurant in Taibei. Well, there's all different cuisines -- ever make it to Little Burma, in Nanshijiao? -- but I suppose that wasn't your point.

Hee, yeah, there are definitely lots of restaurants with different cuisines in Taipei, it's just that my parents almost never go to them. We went for Korean food at one point, and my dad had no idea what to order because it had been years since he'd had Korean! Neither of them knew what to get when we went out for Thai too (Thai is getting really popular in Taiwan now...). And they don't eat Indian food and I don't think they've had Mediterranean before either!
