Yes, very much the exotic Oriental trope! Though I didn't mind it quite as much as I normally would have -- there's a bit about Soraya's threatening, mute, eunuch servant, and I rolled my eyes, until it was revealed that it was her very English brother. So... a little commentary on cultural appropriation, although, naturally, not enough to include actual brown people @@.
