It's been a year since I've read Death Note, which is partly why I think I was able to enjoy these three volumes. I still miss L a ton, but after a year, I've forgotten my attachment a little, and as such, reading these almost felt like reading a sequel or a new series or something. It's also given me enough distance to like Near and Mello for themselves, not just as L substitutes.
Light continues to try and rule the world, though he seems to be losing a bit of his edge, what with having three identities and battling two other super geniuses.
Mello amuses me every time he's on screen, particularly after the giant explosion and his scar and his rabid munching on chocolate bars.
I am strangely fond of Near and his symbolic toys.
*sigh* I have long since given up on this series and women; Misa continues to be Light's tool. At least there's the new newscaster woman, although she's a romantic interest of sorts as well. I'd be more annoyed with Light cheating on Misa if he'd ever shown any affection toward her, but since he sees everyone as tools to be used, I'm not surprised at all. Hal Linder could have been cool as well, but I doubt she'll have much to do.
The new Kira person is interesting and creepy.
I have absolutely no idea how this series will end. If Light ends up triumphing, it'll be so morally grey. But if he gets what's coming to him, it may end up as too moralistic. But I want him to get caught! Maybe Mello and Near will end up ruling the world. That would be interesting.
