Tue, Feb. 3rd, 2004 10:49 pmI think it's funny that there's a giant to-do about Janet Jackson's breast and the general Sorry State of Sexuality on TV (ran out of alliterations). Because I would really much rather have my kids watching people gratuitously murdered and hacked into bits on TV. Really.
Well, I guess they would have a giant to-do as well with the violence. But I can't help feel that the whole oh my god it's a bared breast thing is a little over the top. Dude. Half the population has got them.

I thought about this
Wed, Feb. 4th, 2004 05:11 pm (UTC)Personally, I had more problems with what Nelly was singing. I am upset that the rest of the show is being ignored because of a naked boobie. I didn't think anything anyone did or said in that show was appropriate for children and children across the country are allowed to stay up late and watch the Super Bowl. I have no problem with adult entertainment, but there is a time and place for that. The Super Bowl isn't it.
I don't let my kids watch people "gratuitously murdered and hacked into bits on TV," so this argument is pretty silly. What was upsetting wasn't the naked breast, but that it was done for shock value and when children are having some nice time with Daddy. MTV decided what MY children should be seeing. We don't watch MTV (mainly because the music not only sucks artistically, but because it doesn't respect much of anything any more) and the entire thing was offensive. The breast is just something that we can point to and say "That is a gross violation of FCC regulations." Personally, I hope MTV is seriously fined for this. They overstepped their bounds, not to make a point, but for what?
Personally, I like what Jon Stewart was saying about Nelly's "itchy penis." Poor Nelly and his itchy penis. I really do feel for him.
