Wah! How did this go from slapstick to making me cry?
I am incredibly amused by how Anna's expressions of love and devotion largely come in the form of shoving people off rocks and telling them to go die. Or, in an act of incredible generosity, not eating their share of the jjajangmyeon.
This show keeps making me want jjajangmyeon, and I just had the Chinese version yesterday for dinner and more leftovers today!
And we have the requisite piggy-back ride! Except we only get to see it in flashback because Anna is that drunk and doesn't want to be carried. Anna, you are awesome.
Also, now I draw giant sparkly hearts all over Jang Chul Soo (I can't think of him as just Chul Soo, since Anna always goes, "Jang Chul Soo!"). He is amazingly good humored, all things considered, and I marvel that the show has made me love a guy who took advantage of a woman with amnesia to cut down on housekeeping bills. And yet! There you have it.
Um, and it doesn't hurt that he's really built. It's a nice change from some of the other scrawny actors (*cough*HyunBin*cough*).
I absolutely love all the Anna-Jang Chul Soo arguments, particularly how he'll be yelling at her, and then she'll completely turn it around, flounce off, and leave him there yelling. Like when she thinks he's drowned! And then pushes him off the rocks and tells him to go die because he made her worry!
I had a few qualms with the whole "Anna softens up," largely because I am tired of women softening up while doing housework and taking care of kids. So I love that the ultimate version of her caring is leaving all of them behind! And she has secret angst! More female characters need to have secret angst!
I was trying to like Yu Kyeong at first, but now that she lies to both Jang Chul Soo and Anna to get Jang Chul Soo to drive her home or to make Anna think that they're back together again, I just want to shake her. Also, I do not understand at all why she's not telling people that she and her fiance broke up.
I am annoyed once more at female rivals fighting over a guy, but at least Anna has a friendship (of sorts) with Kang Ja, and you see Yu Kyeong and her weird school teacher friend, and I love watching Anna and Deuk Gu's mom together. Particularly how Deuk Gu's mom knows how to lure her with rice wine!
I should be more annoyed at Billy, but we sort of knew he was a coward going in. I like his sections when they give us Anna flashbacks though. I really want to get Anna's memories of how they got married.
Oh! And I have many hearts for Jang Chul Soo, because even though he falls for Yu Kyeong's being drunk thing, he also goes back for Anna and tells Yu Kyeong for the nth time that she can't keep doing this. I like that he is smart enough to set boundaries and stick to them, even when he knows he shouldn't leave a very drunk woman alone somewhere.
Some of my favorite scenes so far:
- Cooking jjajangmyeon at home!
- Anna trying on the headband in the bathroom
- The bus stop scene in my icon! So cute!
- Jang Chul Soo finding Anna by tracking down all the grumpy and annoyed people
- Anna drinking rice wine
- Jang Chul Soo panicking because he thought Anna left when she was just looking for the dog.
And did I mention the bus stop scene? I think this and Coffee Prince have made me realize I'm a bit of a sucker for people talking on the phone or texting each other when they're right next to each other.
And then ohhhhh, she leaves! WAH! I am glad he found her straight away! But now there is a cliffhanger and he is going to tell her something and there is going to be incredible angst!
I do not know how all these trendy dramas go from absolutely hilarious scenes to incredible angst, but they seem to be very good at it. My heart totally broke for Anna when she was demanding her last meal and saying goodbye to Jang Chul Soo and the kids without letting them know. I had thought she had matured a lot before (although I hope she never stops being grumpy and snotty, because I love the whole "It doesn't suck" as code for "I love you), but ohhhh. I'm glad she was the one who finally took action, after Billy and Jang Chul Soo had been wavering about it the entire time.
And oh, I so don't want her to find out that Jang Chul Soo tricked her, especially after her flashback of angst to her grandmother being sick.
In other news, I am trying to memorize the hangul alphabet, only I suck at vowels. And I keep pausing to see if I can read people's names in the credits.
