OMG. It is so fitting that my local news is now advertising a story: "Not your average blonde woman: the peculiar effects that blondes have on men." (quote taken verbatim, thanks to the joys of Tivo)

I HATE THIS EPISODE WITH THE PASSION OF A THOUSAND FIERY SUNS. HATE. HATE SO MUCH. OMG HATE.

ok, Hiro and Angela were cool. But that is it.

Show? You made me hate Mr. Bennet. I would say you made me hate West, but that happened a long time ago. And WTF, now he gets Claire for a prize?

HATE HATE HATE HATE STABBITY HATE HAVE NO MORE WORDS.

eta: fixed html tag that i forgot to close in my rage. still so angry.

Console yourself with Gunslinger Girl volume 5 or Nodame Cantabile volume 11? Maybe I should go run out and by the RAISED BY PIGEONS manga. Heroes is giving me sadface, too.

I'm not sure about the manga, but Nodame Cantabile is an excellent live-action drama.

Live action drama!? I love the anime, which is very faithful to the manga, but I like the anime more, because it has music and great voice actors and it's animated. I hope the anime continues (it covers volumes 1-9). I did not know about the live action version....

I've only seen one episode, but it was excellent and Chiaki's really good-looking. I watch it for the plot, and Nodame is awesome!

Everything is a drama, it's kind of awesome.

Damo is getting better and better, btw.

Wow -- I haven't watched it yet, and now I'm in no rush....

This, and the broader race and gender critiques, really put an interesting spin on Tim Kring's "we can't please everyone all the time" comment on Jason Mittell's blog here (http://justtv.wordpress.com/2007/11/16/rethinking-heroes-and-mea-culpas/#comment-3792)....

Yeah, *sigh*....

I made a post (http://cryptoxin.livejournal.com/14906.html) today that linked to & quoted at length your critique of the episode, alongside a bunch of other quotes -- but I want to belatedly make sure that's okay with you (and apologies for not checking in with you sooner!), or if you'd prefer I revise or not link/quote.

I'm at the point where it really feels like I'm simultaneously watching two shows. In terms of moving the narrative forward, last night's worked really well for me. In terms of just about everything else, STABBY is the best word for it.

Agreeing with your comments here and over beyond the link.

Also not pleased with Parkman deciding to use/manipulate/control the following:

* the child who depends on him and who has been reduced to either 'doll' or 'tool' status

* a person of color who had authority over him

* a woman (Angela Petrelli)

Totally consistent with his prior characterization, though. He was one of the FutureStasi, after all. Parkman is definitely an ends justify the means kind of guy, at least if it's his means.

I just realized that the two stupidest characters in the show are roomies. Huh.

It's kind of fitting, really, with the stupid.

Yeah, Matt's going to be an official villain in 5...4..3..2...

I like to fancy I don't have too very many squick buttons, but that killed the character for me. Right there.

I must have had a premonition, becasue I just plain decided not to watch it last night.

From what I'm reading, I'm glad I did.

I think I now have an extra hour free on Monday nights for doing somthing that won't drive me into a fury.

WTF?

I was actually really happy that we were all accepting people's deaths and not playing God was the theme of the episode. And I was really pleased about Mr. Bennet dying (I haven't liked him in a while, and I never really loved him), then he gets the miracle cure at the end. Not Niki, for all we know she's dead as... D.L. Or Kaito (or Simone and Charles Deveaux, or Isaac Mendez, or Charlie, or Eden...). But not The Petrelli brothers, or Adam Munroe/Kensei, or Noah Bennet.

I think the message is, death is out of our hands and we can't do anything about it, unless of course a white man is involved, then we'll pull some magical solution out of our hats.

I think I've crossed that line, and I'm not watching this show anymore.

Two things I'd say to Mohinder:

Ugh. I just watched it and ugh. I'm not sure which part of the ep I hated most. I really really hope they are setting Matt up to be a Big Bad, because then at least the mind-rapes would make sense in his character arc. It would mirror Kaito/Hiro, and there's already a pattern of mirror pairs in the series. But if he's meant to be a Good Guy and the mind-rapes are okay because it is in the service of Ultimate Good -- yeauch.

And the trading the blonde females like heads of cabbages! I couldn't stop yelling at the screen! Ick ick ick! And West was still creepy as hell - emotionally manipulative and passive aggressive and stupid and ugh. Part of it I guess could be chalked up to teenagers in general being idiots, but still. Yuck.
