Every single time I think manga cannot possibly surprise me further (I feel this is a logical conclusion after coming across things like canonical mpreg, psalm-writing mass murderer poets, and all of Godchild), I do.

[livejournal.com profile] telophase presents: RAISED BY PIGEONS!

I kid you not! A character! RAISED BY PIGEONS! She hugs them! She calls them "mom" and "dad"! There is a pigeon on her head at all times! She KNOWS PIGEON KARATE!

I just...

RAISED BY PIGEONS!

that is all.

It's going to take a hell of a lot to top this.

I have faith that some manga, somewhere, will do it.

YES, my boyfriend and I looked at them after I read all of the descriptive posts out loud to him. We are....awed and impressed.

...so every statue is a bathroom to her? Because...that's what I think of when I think of pigeons and the lessons they might impart.

...Raised by pigeons. Raised by bloody pigeons. Oh my god, don't they have Child Protective Services in that world?

Does it not sound like the most amazing thing known to man?

It makes you seriously wonder WHAT they put in the water in japan.

Oh yes, I very much appreciate that kind of manga, too. But the mere concept of Hikkatsu fills me with awe and glee(but then, so does the concept of something like Bride of the Water God, just in different ways.)

I read it at work. I may never recover. This is a good thing.

The pigeon on her head is the clincher!

(Did I ever tell you about the time I walked through Boston Common and saw a man sitting on a bench with his arms stretched out like a scarecrow and pigeons perched all over him? It was one of the most disgusting things I'd ever seen.)

There's canonical mpreg in Journey to the West. I think it probably qualifies as the earliest mpreg story ever written down in a novel...

... but raised by pigeons wins, I think.

... PIGEONS!

(Sorry, I have nothing to add; I just feel the need to participate in the general exclamation. Because: PIGEONS!)
