In India it's called "the Indian Independence Movement," not "the Indian Revolution." If you mention the latter over there, people will assume you're referring to the war of 1857-1858. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Rebellion_of_1857) I always assumed that was because the one occuring in the 20th century was non-violent, hence a "movement" or a "struggle," while the failed attempt in 1858 was a war, hence a "revolution."
That is, people might colloquially call the Indian Independence movement a revolution when discussing it in context of other revolutions, but I've never heard that used as the title of the event(s.)
