Mushishi, ep. 04-09
Tue, Oct. 23rd, 2007 03:09 pmFor once my icon is inappropriate!
Spoilers for all eps.
I'm continuing to love this series, both as anime and as manga. Also, I think the anime has things in different order than the manga, which makes watching more interesting.
I saw eps. 4-7 a while back, so I don't remember them that clearly. I think it was the living swamp one, the morning glory one, and the dream pillow one, and then I watched the ocean with the mushi snakes and the guy's wife in a rowboat one, the rainbow one, and the creepy tooth one. Ok, the last one isn't really about a creepy tooth and is more about fruits of immortality, but teeth scare me. Especially teeth in places where teeth should not be.
This phobia sounded much saner before I wrote it out.
But I digress!
I usually don't pay much attention to the music or voicework of anime (or really, of anything), but I noticed both for Mushishi because they are so lovely and fitting.
And even though I can't quite recall the specifics of each episode, I love the feel of the series, the dreamy watercolors and how the dreaminess can take that sharp left into nightmare territory without ever losing the delicacy. I found most of the episodes to be magical and strange and gorgeous without the spookiness, but every so often, something like the pillow dream one or the morning glory one will freak me out.
So far, my favorite is the one about the living swamp, just for all the gorgeous shades of green.

Wed, Oct. 24th, 2007 05:57 pm (UTC)I very much like Ginko and his near blase-ness about his bug geek life! Particularly when he sort of looks at people and is all "Um. What were you thinking?!"

Though I think he may get a little lonely for someone to squee over his bugs with who isn't primarily concerned with squashing them first, which is why I like those characters so much and want them to come back. (Adashino!)
