Union Square farmer's market
Fri, Jul. 6th, 2007 01:12 pmI'm at
coffeeandink's place right now, after having spent the morning at the Union Square farmer's market. I feel somewhat guilty for cheating on my own farmer's market, but oh well. There isn't nearly as much fruit here yet; home's market has been taken over by stone fruits of all sorts, but I still got cherries, raspberries, and, most importantly, peas!
Yesterday was spent at the Strand, in which I got many books, including a lot of half-price manga! I think today will be much media consumption, including the pimpage of my beloved Honey and Clover, hopefully while shelling peas for actual food consumption. I am also staring greedily at Mely's shelves and trying to decide how much manga I can read while she cooks soup.
I am having tons of good food. Yesterday, for brunch, Mely and I went to Max Brenner's, which has tons and tons and tons of chocolate. I had waffles with Swiss, asparagus and mushrooms, which was extremely tasty, as they had changed the waffle batter so that it was savory, and it was served with a little chili mayo in a teeny mad scientist flask! Mely had broccoli quiche with creme fraische, which is how I now think most quiche should be served. And I had hot dark chocolate, which is delicious and not too sweet and done in a cappucino-like fashion so that the top is lovely and frothy. Mely got the Mexican hot chocolate, but I think she thought it was too spicy. Then we had fondue, which has all the following elements that I love: playing with fire, cooking at the table (sort of), and food on sticks!
We may have set several marshmallows on fire while toasting them, but thankfully the other things at the table stayed unlit.
More food reportage to come!

Fri, Jul. 6th, 2007 05:36 pm (UTC)I've never yet been to Max Brenner's, but it always looks so interesting! I'm also off to the, er, holistic pet store, & there's one nearby, so perhaps I will finally indulge.

Mon, Jul. 9th, 2007 11:37 pm (UTC)Max Brenner was really, really good. Especially if you like chocolate. I went there a second time this weekend as well with my sister and her friend and had the sweet waffles that time.
