Most of this weekend has been attempting to code my very first programs (go me?), which amazingly had much less swearing than I had originally anticipated. May this trend hold....

And today, I went to SF to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] yeloson and [livejournal.com profile] coniraya! We met at the Imperial Tea Court, which has won over my heart forever just for having real birds in those little wooden cages you see in all the Chinese teahouses in wuxia movies. [livejournal.com profile] yeloson ordered the tea, as he actually knows about tea and how to serve it properly. Like, the whole shebang -- swishing the water around the tea leaves in a cup and then dumping the water out, then filling the cup with water and pouring the tea into a little pitcher so it wouldn't steep too long, and doing it over again several times to get different blooms and flavors. There are probably proper vocab. words for this that I do not know.

I think we had a white tea, an oolong, and an aged puerh, and they were all really good. [livejournal.com profile] yeloson let us smell the tea leaves, some of which were lovely and smoky, especially the puerh at the end. Alas and alack, I must cut my caffeine intake, so I couldn't have too much.

We then ventured over to Japantown, in which I got Reload 6 and 21st Century Boys in Japanese because I am too impatient and will pore over the pages and puzzle at the meanings for hours. And we had sushi and donburi for dinner.

Oh! I almost forgot! There was a street fair near the Kinokuniya building, so we all had funnel cake! I think I ate too much, as I attempted to eat an entire funnel cake and couldn't finish, but still... funnel cake!

We also talked a lot about race and gender and sexuality in things, and I got lots of comic recs that I already have started to forget, so [livejournal.com profile] coniraya and [livejournal.com profile] yeloson, I poke at you both. I think there was the one with the Gorgons and 100 Bullets (?) and ... crud. My memory is so bad! Also, now I feel the urge to watch more wuxia, as [livejournal.com profile] yeloson made this awesome wuxia in space rpg with court intrigue and drama and cyborg eunuchs (!!) and I picked to be an assassin! I am sure no one is surprised. And [livejournal.com profile] coniraya mentioned that he is now watching So You Think You Can Dance, which has totally made my week!

It was really fun hanging out. We should do it again! (also, I have projection screen and friends talking about Avatar night in the future...)

The goodness that is Artesia (http://www.daradja.com/artesia.php).

100 Bullets is published by DC, and you can get collected trades at any good comic shop.

On note of recent wuxia- Shadowless Sword, The Promise, and The Myth were all fun movies. The Legend of Zu must be seen for cracktastic factor alone. Duel of Wits was more historical, but I really liked it. Shinobi isn't wuxia per se, but emo ninjas fighting is not much different than emo flying swordsmen. The Seven Swordsmen of Mt. Tian/Heaven is a tv drama directed by Tsui Hark, and really fun if you can forgive the tiresome gender issues.

I actually dislike corndogs, and am not a big donut fan. Funnelcakes are essentially a squiggly donut, but I think they taste so much better!

Funnel cake is one of the archtypal foods. It's funnel cake, or fried dough, or beignets, or fry bread, or probably a dozen other variations of the same basic (gloriously simple) concept. Yum.

I ate at the Slanted Door on Saturday--awesome! Caramelized tiger prawns!

Hey email me with your email : Coniraya (dot) S (at) gmail (dot) com and I'll send over some of the stuff we were talking about.

Also I had a great time. I love geeking out over Sci-Fi & So You Think You Can Dance in the same conversation.
