I feel this show just keeps jerking me around!
One moment, Juliet will do something awesome, and then the next, she's back to being a damsel in distress, saved by all the brave men. Case in point: Romeo talking about protecting her from the bandits. Juliet was the Red Whirlwind, for heaven's sake! At least she did get to beat up on people a little, as opposed to cowering helplessly. But still.
I cheered when she drew her father's sword and swore to restore the Capulets, and then I groaned when she was spirited away from the fight. I am also really annoyed by how everyone attempts to keep her safe and sheltered. It's somewhat understandable, given that she's the sole Capulet, but if she were a guy, I bet they would be training her to swordfight and actually, say, including her in strategy meetings.
I am beginning to think that this show will keep enough trappings to keep me somewhat interested to the last, a la Last Exile, but will continue to go with the iffy gender bits (though I will be overjoyed to be proven wrong).
I also patted Romeo on the head when he pleaded with the nobles to pardon the Capulet servants and Juliet. Ah Romeo. You really don't have a single political bone in your body, do you?
Oh, and Tybalt? He is so Sasuke! Complete with the emo o'erhanging him like a hat! I snicker every time he appears, because even his clothes look a little like Sasuke's!
On the other hand, I was still overcome with the cuteness of the balcony scene and Romeo and Juliet blissing out in their true, true love. I even awww-ed a little at the mock church wedding, complete with irises of DOOM.
