I got me a haircut today. This is the first time I've ever gotten a haircut without my mom there. And it's the first time I've gotten one in America, so it was interesting. We don't tip haircut people in Taiwan, so I had to figure out all the tipping protocol stuff. But it's now all straight and flippy and cute. I have rock star hair! Finally, my perm is growing out. And I found out the hair place gives free bang trims, which is very very excellent.
Spent a ton of money yesterday... bought a SmartMedia card reader so I can FINALLY download about two years worth of pictures off my digital camera. I kid you not. Then had fun at Best Buy with DVDs (Singin' in the Rain! Amelie was on sale!) and CDs (Flogging Molly and 10,000 Maniacs). Now I feel all good about supporting musicians I like instead of downloading everything. Although I do that as well... Then I had fun at Barnes and Noble and bought The Origin of Satan by Elaine Pagels, because she's a preceptor in my religion class and just, any book with a title like that should be read. And there's a book with critical essays on Buffy, so I got that because I wanted to know what people were writing. I think another critical book is coming out this summer too, very cool. Yay Buffy! There's an article in there on slash which looked very interesting.
Personally, I'm not into slash for very basic reasons... For some reason, I just don't find two guys together a turn on. I don't mind so much reading non-NC-17 slash, but I guess male-male sex just doesn't push my buttons. Huh. I wonder what that means. But I'm very interested in it from an academic viewpoint, due to the discovery of yaoi and shounen ai back when I was in the Gundam Wing fandom. Thus, my abiding interest in slash subcultures and my thesis topic on gender and sexuality in shoujo manga.
And even more randomly, I started thinking about what I like in music. Generally, I like music, but I'm not very passionate about it. I feel like I have no taste in music at all. I like top 40 stuff, but I don't think it's very interesting.. more catchy, I guess. I think I really tend to like folk-type music with interesting instruments, like bluegrass, the later Dixie Chicks stuff, Flogging Molly (Irish stuff). Don't know if that makes sense. And I like sappy romantic Chinese ballads. And oldies. Hrm. I really have no musical taste.
