Kubo Tite - Bleach, ch. 265-270

To get the important things out of the way first: Head in jar!! Not just one head, but two heads in one jar! AWESOME!

I'm so glad that Kubo is throwing in good stuff again (not just the heads in jar, though that is good stuff too). This entire mini-arc with Rukia and not-Kaien has been a great look at Rukia, and I particularly love the idea that someone's heart isn't in them, but rather, in the connection between them and other people.

Also, Rukia is so not dead. She is Rukia! I love her and her narrowed eyes of steeliness, how she figures out the sunlight thing (OMG! Heads! In jar!), how she gains strength from remembering Kaien's words.

I am not sure what's going on with everyone else, except Renji is hilarious (possibly unintentionally so), the wee, half-Hollow things still crack me up, and there are still entirely too many of the Arrancar with names I do not remember, cannot pronounce, and do not particularly care about.

But still. Rukia! Being awesome! That's worth a whole lot.

Rukia is also so not dead because this is _Bleach_. No one really dies in _Bleach_.

Kaien is really a great character, though; such a powerful offscreen presence, and this tiny glimpses we get of him in flashbacks are effective.

Haha, it's so true! Kubo! You've got to kill someone to maintain some sort of credibility!

I really want to reread the Kaien flashbacks from Soul Society, except right now, staring too long at my monitor makes me queasy (ugh).
