oyceterApparently I can only watch one episode of Spooks every month or so, or else it will just break my heart into itty bitty pieces.
Not that this episode didn't, but at least it was just this ep, as opposed to the accumulated angst of the season.
Oh man, Adam. You are so fucked up. Not that I don't sympathize, because I deal with grief and stress the exact same way; namely, bury head in work or things to do to keep yourself from thinking. But that is not necessarily the best method when your work involves national security and illegal operations against the government and, oh, not telling your son or your in-laws. Gah. Poor Wes.
I really like that Adam does function all right at work. The psychiatrist may be right in that he shouldn't be, but he strikes me as the type of person who tends to do better under stress because it forces him to ruthlessly prioritize. And it seemed like all the calls he was making about the operation were correct, including attempting to contact the GCHQ woman spy person. He's very much the opposite of Tom, huh? I can't really see Tom doing anything rational in that state of mind, but that's also why Tom is the Worst Spy Ever.
I liked Hugo Ross (I keep thinking "Hugo Boss") and the strange camaraderie and respect that he and Harry have for each other. And oh, the memory drug! I sort of knew that they couldn't really kill off another character or decommission one, given that Fiona just died, but then again, you never know with this show! So I was scared that they'd inject Zaf with it as well.
Still not that much Zaf characterization, and I wonder why he's so eager to have Jo stay at his flat?
Jo -- I guess she's not going to resign? It's interesting that Adam's the one to tell her that you do your job and you get through it, given that he should be the one angsting to resign, but Adam deals by working. That bit in which he says that without the job, he doesn't have anything, is very telling.
Not that much Ruth, but I love that Adam goes to her to influence Harry.
