Princess Tutu, ep. 23-26

oyceterI probably shouldn't have watched the final few episodes with my mom around, given that she attempts to talk over the TV all the time and then complain when I don't listen.
Argh. Normally I would be happy bouncy squeeful about this, except I am stuck pondering parental issues instead.
And I unwisely returned the DVD, so I can't rewatch in a better mood.
But despite that, I squeed mightily when I watched, particularly Tutu in the gearworld and Uzura. I love Uzura! She's so cute! I also snicker at the fact that the pen is actually mightier than the sword in this world, and that Fakir explicitly trades in his sword for a pen.
The entire thing with Uzura turning the gears of the story backward rocked like a rocking thing, especially with the look at Rue's backstory, how she named herself (I feel like that should be a very powerful thing in a story on metanarrative), how her father attempted to write the story of her life while she's been attempting to write a different story. And Fakir, reaching out and calling for Ahiru! I love so much that he called "Ahiru" and not "Tutu;" he knows she's a duck all along, unlike Mytho.
And Rue! I took a really long time to like Rue, which is odd because she is so my character type, but.. I dunno. Ahiru is just too cute and sweet and brave. But the moments when she realizes that she can't win, but that she loves her prince anyway and will sacrifice herself for him were great. Also, it was a nice rewriting of Swan Lake -- I always used to feel bad for Odile, manipulated by her father and everything.
It's nice that the series is going somewhere not that expected for the romance. I mean, it was telegraphed ever since ep. 13ish, but given the beginning and given how Ahiru first becomes Princess Tutu, it was a nice change! And it was nice having that change and still have Ahiru and Fakir want desperately to help out Mytho.
And then! Tutu! Tutu removes the final heart shard and becomes a duck again! Waaah! I loved how Fakir diving into the lake to rescue Ahiru once again echoed Swan Lake, I loved Ahiru dancing on no matter what, I loved Fakir worrying so much about her on the sidelines.
I also like that for once, the female character is out there sacrificing her life and doing things, while the male character is left behind, safe at home, unable to do much except provide emotional support. It's a nice change of pace.
But mostly I am squeeful and incoherent because I love Ahiru so much! She is the little duck who could! She actually goes in and changes the story!
And now that I have my sound card driver installed again, I can go rewatch the vid of niftiness.

And Ahiru and Fakir by the lake rocks.
