I didn't like it as much as I've liked other episodes -- Will at the spa just felt horribly awkward. But I love how they're handling the Adam and Joan thing, so much can be forgiven for that.
Here is where I digress into personal stuff: I had this giant unrequited crush on some guy for a five years or something, so I used to be very into the Cinderella fantasy type thing. Then some time this other guy ended up having a crush on me, and in a fit of temporary insanity, I decided to go with it. And I hated it. I had no idea why, because I had read tons and tons of stories in which the pining girl got the guy, and everything was happy and great. There was never a story in which there was a pining guy, and it was awkward for the girl, because of course it was only the girl who pined. I massively freaked out and hurt the guy a lot in the process of my figuring out that there was no way I was even remotely ready for anything resembling romance outside of books. This is how I ended up loving romance novels that had distant heroines and the heroes who love them (as opposed to the standard misunderstood hero). I mean, one doesn't see non-pining girls all that often, I feel. I think that's also what I disliked the most about the early Buffy and Angel relationship.
So. Let me just say how much I loved that the writers had Joan be the one to be unready for commitment instead of tossing her around from guy to guy, like Buffy (I love Buffy, but I have some quibbles). And it completely makes sense, because yeah, getting close to Adam is scary. He's not that emotionally stable, his mother committed suicide, and while Joan does honestly want to help, it can be a little hard to handle for a girl who's still trying to figure out her own place in the world. And I like that Adam is ok with the fact that Joan isn't ready, that he doesn't try to push. Also? The awkward conversation at the end and the dance was perfect ^_^.
And Kevin and what's-her-name kissing made me keep thinking in the back of my head: is there going to be an episode in which someone accuses her of giving Kevin the essay writing position just because she likes him?

I love that scene with Grace and Joan, and the peace offering of tissues. Totally lost it when Joan starting crying, starting with that sort of high-pitched whining noise. One reason why I love Amber Tamblyn is because she cries like a real person, instead of doing pretty movie tears.
Loved Kevin's not-really-breakup scene, as well as Helen. I really like Helen. I started out disliking her when I saw Uncertainty Principle (first ep I saw), but I have now seen the error of my ways ;).
Was sort of meh on the cop subplot... I thought for some reason that Scott in debate would be a brother to the gay kid because they looked remarkably alike. And was of two minds as to the Luke and Glynis thing (I just found out she was in Spider-man 2! Hee! Glynis fed Peter Parker cake!).
But adore the Grace and Joan scene to bitty pieces.

AT and Becky Wahlstrom who plays Grace have *wonderful* chemistry together--lots of subtext to play with, if you want to spin their relationship as more than just friendship. (Although I think they work beautifully as friends.)
Hmmm, "Night Without Stars" next. I had a lot of problems with that one, although it has some moments that are genuinely moving.

Glad I'm not babbling about JoA into a void! Was sort of scared I was boring people to death with the JoA love.
