Angel 5x15 A Hole in the World

oyceterUnfortunately, I was rather underwhelmed by this ep. I could tell Joss was going for complete heartbreak and angst, and for some reason, it just wasn't getting to me. The entire having all the guys crowding around Fred's bed vowing to save her, Spike swearing that by god, she wasn't going to die today, Wesley and Gunn and Lorne, it just seemed too Mary-Sue like or something. I've never felt that strongly about Fred as a viewer, so I guess it was kind of weird when everyone was making a giant fuss about her. Not even that, but just how united and up in arms and everything they were. Even poor spurned Knox still thinks she's the most exceptional woman to grace the planet, in his weird way. I felt it would have worked a lot better had it been Cordy or someone with a stronger pull. Also, what's with having the female stars being possessed of evil demon people from before the beginning of time?
That said, I still like the Spike and Angel banter, and Angel walking around with a sword stuck through him was awesome. Also liked the conversation in the airplane. And: "Caveman or astronaut?"
Adored Wes' conversation with Gunn. Nice to have some acknowledgement.
Oh Gunn... what have you gotten yourself into? We were all predicting in episodes one and two that Angel was going to be the one going down this path, with his killing of humans and etc., and here's Gunn, making deals with the devil. And did he kill Knox or just seriously wound him? I'm guessing kill from the look on his face.
Lorne had something to do, rejoice!
Cheered at Fred's "I'm not a damsel in distress speech" then rolled my eyes as she promptly fainted into Wesley's strong, masculine arms right afterward. Way to go, Joss. So affirming. Rolled my eyes through a lot of the "I loved you before I met you!" etc. etc. With this in mind, the entire Wes/Lilah relationship is even more twisted. But hey, reading the Little Princess is good.
