My boy suggested that the episode would have been better placed a few episodes earlier-- before Cordelia came back and made Angel on top of things again, not doubting and useless feeling. So that way the whole not-having-a-mission thing would have resonated more.
I found my mind wondering at several points during the ep. I mean, I guess it's important that Angel has done some morally ambiguous things in his past (vamping a guy to help win WWII)... but flashback guy's "One move and they'll all be decapitated!!!"... it all just seemed so conveluted. I get that it's supposed to be one of those "gee, Angel sure as heck doesn't get along with his kids! Who would of thunk that Dru would turn out to be the most well adjusted?" moments... they were heavy handed enough with it... Angel continuously calling flashback guy "son" (when has Angel called ANYONE son, other than Connor?)... the Human-Chain-O-Death (bombs, wire... big diff...). Meh.
But the promo... yeeehehehehehehehe! I am SO looking forward to next weeks ep! The first time we had a really silly promo ("cautionary tale of #5"), I was really worried, but that ep turned out to be really wonderful. So if anything, my expectation for eps with silly promos is incredibly high now. :)
I wonder if Angel is turned into a puppet the same way as Sid (from btvs' "the puppet show")? If you're spoiled, don't tell me... but I'd love to share any unspoiled speculation you have :)
Yeah... and I felt it wasn't half as interesting as the one in S3 (S2?) on that Penn guy. And Gunn and Fred and Wes were pretty much useless.
I did like a few things -- Angel saying he didn't want to be stuck at the bottom of the ocean and Spike not wanting govt. interference in his head cracked me up, as did "Prince of Lies" dude. Hee. Great introduction scene.

Fri, Feb. 13th, 2004 03:31 am (UTC)I think it was just a one-off, but I wasn't analyzing it too closely because I was bored.

I couldn't agree with you more!
