Angel 4x22 Home (further notes)
Thu, May. 8th, 2003 10:59 pmI watched it again last night at four in the morning, and yup, I got about as waterworky as I ever get.
Thinking about next week's Buffy -- you know, this has nothing to do with my Spuffy-leanings, which have gotten slighter over time (Wes/Lilah! Angst galore!), but I just don't want to see a big Buffy/Angel thing. At all. I don't want to see lots of angst on how they can never be together, because I feel that would only seem to lessen the importance of Connor and Angel's sacrifice yesterday. And I don't want to see them being all happy lovey-dovey, because again, lessening the impact of that last scene in Home. And.. well, Angel just feels so much more grown up. People say Dawn was the love of Buffy's life in S5... well, that's what Connor has been for the past two seasons to Angel.
I don't know if I agree with people who say ME should have looked as Wes/Lilah and realized that was how Buffy/Spike should have been played, because honestly? I liked season 6, including all of the gratuitous nekkid!Spike. I'm a huge sucker for relationship angst, and I just feel Wes/Lilah is of a slightly different flavor than Buffy/Spike. I loved the sheer mutual abusiveness of Spike and Buffy, how they tore each other down and never bothered to build each other back up in season 6. It was gloriously destructive and it hurt to watch, but I loved it. It's like
anniesj and
wisteria_'s Hard Candy, which may be one of my favorite fics ever. And now Wes/Lilah seems to be shaping into angst in B/A proportions. Which is fine by me.
Please please please renew Angel someone!

Thu, May. 8th, 2003 08:32 pm (UTC)Hrm, that's interesting. The Buffy/Angel interaction will be an interesting one to watch, especially after all they've been through since last meeting in season 5. I'd just love some sort of explanation like Buffy's to Giles in the end of season 6.
"Son? What? With DARLA?!"
"Yeah, well, you slept with SPIKE! Repeatedly!"
"Bwah! Oh wait, you weren't kidding when you said Wes was kickass now, were you?"

I think in some ways that third development is the biggest shocker! ;-)
