And the morality of Lackey is simplistic to begin with. She always has at least several of the same components in her books:
- the overly attractive young boy/girl that is misunderstood or abused by his/her family or their village or the other boys/girls at school. Said OAYB/G will also feel alone and isolated because they feel "different" than everyone else.
- Quite possibly, a horrible tragedy has preceded the first condition (see: the Owlknight series with supposedly dead parents)
-OAYB/G will have possibly have some musical or artistic talent that allows them to express the welter of confusing emotions inside them. Someone will see this art and realize the sensitive soul trapped inside the fragile shell.
-Newly Discovered Sensitive and Still Overly Attractive Young Boy/Girl will become a Herald or some other elite designation. They will evince powers or capabilities that should be beyond their tender years. Honors and compliments will be heaped upon them. Mentors will flock to their sides.
-NDSaSOAYB/G will feel the awesome weight of their powers and/or responsibilities until they find their One True Love, who will help bear their burden by offering a good shagging at the proper moment. The OTL may be lost to them through kidnapping or death, but even death can't keep them apart (Vanyel, meet Reincarnation as a Plot Device. RaaPD, meet Vanyel).
-The NDSaSOAYB/G will probably go through at least one completely gratuitous physical trial (see: torture/rape of Talia, rape of Vanyel, et cetera). If the NDSaSOAYB/G is to actually survive Lackey's story, he or she will find true happiness and love (Talia). They may also have a complete reversal of the tragic event in their life (Darian and "Hey! My entire family *wasn't* horribly killed!"). If the NDSaSOAYB/G is going to die, then he or she will die in some great sacrifice that will awe their family, their friends and the entire country for decades to come, and their names will be spoken in eternal reverence (Vanyel, Lavan Firestorm).
