So when my friends told me that they didn't think about racism, I heard, "I don't have to care about something that affects you and doesn't affect me." I heard, "I don't care about something that hurts you." I heard, "I don't care about you or your experiences if they inconvenience me."

Wow.

I want to memorize that.
And then maybe I'll hear it, and recognize it, the next time I want to slide out of a discussion.
