1. Do not keep three separate grocery lists in the vague hopes that all three are the same. They will not magically self-update whenever another grocery list is created. Aka, I ran to a grocery store three separate times today because I kept forgetting things. This is not counting the five runs or so that I've made over the weekend as well.

ETA: make that four times. I can't believe I actually read the recipe for gingerbread three whole times and missed the molasses every single time. *headdesk*

2. When you have to run to the grocery store three separate times because of list mishaps, just expect to get caught at every single yellow light or don't-walk signal possible.

3. Mailing out packages the Monday before Christmas weekend is not a good idea.

4. Eat more protein. Stomach is currently extremely unhappy, probably because of protein deficiency.

5. Scones =! protein

6. Satsumas =! protein

7. Polenta =! protein

8. Oatmeal =! protein

9. Ma po tofu, however, is acceptable

10. Find more recipes with beans or tofu, since you are too lazy to cook with meat.

11. Stop baking! Cook more protein!

My mom just made this the other night. So good. :)

Eggs are protein. Have you ever tried keeping hard-boiled eggs on hand? They're very handy when you don't otherwise have time to cook.

Nuts are also a good protein-rich snack. As is peanut butter. (I love peanut butter on toast.)

Get the Grocery List Generator (https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=744&application=firefox) extension for Firefox! Sure, you have to do the work of adding items and recipes, but then you can just push "Gingerbread" and lo, a list will be generated with all the ingredients.

Hi, I'm [livejournal.com profile] sophia_helix and I am a huge techie dork. *g*

Nah, you don't import the recipes from the internet -- you open the program, create a "new recipe," then hand-add all the items that go into it. It works like this:

Basic screen (http://photobucket.com/albums/a176/sophia_helix/?action=view&current=grocery.jpg), where you choose what and how many items you want on the list.

Editing a recipe (http://photobucket.com/albums/a176/sophia_helix/?action=view&current=grocery2.jpg), by choosing items from the drop-down (you add items to the drop-down in a different screen).

A generated list (http://photobucket.com/albums/a176/sophia_helix/?action=view&current=grocery3.jpg), which includes both items I specifically chose, and items automatically added because I added the recipe they go with.

See? It's organization-geek heaven! AND you could even export it to a portable data device, like a Palm or a Blackberry, which just makes me squirm with techie joy. Also, because you add items and they stay in there all the time, when you're making up a grocery list you don't have to go "Um... what else could we possibly need from the grocery store?"

Well, I just posted bean soups and have another batch of bean recipes for later this week. Should I do a tofu roundup as well?

In the meantime, here's a link to a squash-leek curry that involves tofu. Yum.
