Are there really no comparisons to anime out there? I've only seen the previews, and my very first thought was "that totally looks like it's inspired by mecha anime." Since I am not a fan of the mecha genre (I couldn't get very far into Evangelion at all, for instance - it bored me), that thought was part of the reason why I decided I probably wasn't going to see the movie.
