I find it so incredibly strange that half of the flist is posting about snowing and cold weather. Over here it's about 80 degrees. It is absolutely beautiful outside. Everything is growing, and on my company grounds, about every single tree is in full bloom. I even saw a hummingbird or two yesterday at lunch. I can hear kids at the swimming pool from my open window, and the nights are just cool enough to be delicious. And the sky is that incredible, cloudless blue. We played croquet today at lunch, and the heat intensified that fresh-cut grass smell, and the sun was out, and did I mention that everything was gorgeous and I love this state to pieces?

I was going to say that we know where you live! We have some flowers but no plums or cherries yet--and the warm sun is cut by the incredible hard cold wind. California--stil the best.

Especially since even the cool temps did not slow down the palmetto bug (translation: giant roach) that just flew down from the ceiling.

Your post makes me angry. What so good about blooming trees? It's allergy season! Kids in pools? they are just going to ruin the water. Fresh cut grass? Growing things? Bah! give me death and decay any day!

What? Of course I'm not jealous.

I live in Vancouver, and we are having the mildest winter in ages here. The cherry trees are blooming, and the flowers are coming up all over the place. The skiers are moaning because there is hardly any snow on the local mountains, and the snow pack is very low. I'm not complaining because it's just wonderful to be able to go out in shirtsleeves. I got an email from my brother yesterday, and he said that it was 20 below zero (celsius) in the Toronto area. I felt quite smug. :)

I spent the day on the road today, and wildflowers were blooming everywhere: orange daisies and California poppies making patches of bright orange, purple stalks (lupines) clumped at the edges of the road, and fields and fields of brilliant yellow flowers, maybe mustard, turning entire fields into living sunlight.

Heh, it's not far short of 100 degrees here, but as it's just early autumn down here, that's not surprising :)

Oh, and I love California too. Gorgeous place!
