Waaaaah!!! LJ deprivation! I spent the time by staring at my screen and pressing "refresh" every so often in the vain hope that it would be fixed.

I haven't really been keeping up with LJ lately. I've been reading everyone's posts, but I've just felt too tired to comment or to answer anyone else's comments on my posts. I feel rather guilty about this -- comments are the lifeblood of LJ (imho), and part of me really misses exchanging them with people and replying to everyone's. The other part of me is just too blah and can't concentrate for long enough to write anything coherent. So I'm very sorry if I haven't answered your comments, and I've gotten some very nice and thoughtful ones over the past few days, and I really appreciate that. Usually I try to answer comments, particularly ones on my own posts. It's a bit like the feedback thing with authors, I suppose, not that I am an author. I guess some people are too tired or get too many comments or etc. to reply to all of them, but I sort of like having people comment (ok, I check obsessively and wonder why I don't get more, though I am trying to wean myself from that mindset), so I generally try to reply to people so that they know I'm reading the comments and that I like having people comment. What about you people? Is there some sort of comment protocol that you generally follow? I've felt very guilty lately for breaking my own.

Hi!

Join us at www.greatestjournal.com and set up a free account, just in case it ever happens again. A fair number of atpo addicts made it over there today...hee.

There was quite a rush over on greatest journal today. I was seriously shook up without LJ. I followed Dub's lead and set up a back up over on greatest journal (midnightsjane2).
At least we have a place to run to if this happens again.
Don't worry about not commenting too much. I never take it personally if my posts aren't commented on much, since I assume my friends read it anyway.

Oh, good, I feel better that I'm not the only one who kept hopefully refreshing. I felt particularly deprived because I was out all day yesterday, and the darn thing was down when I got home.

My feelings on comments are just the same as yours. I'm not sure why I feel compelled to answer every comment, since I don't think that everyone whose journal I post to should be compelled to answer my comments, but I still try to answer them all. (Not that I've ever gotten so many that it's hard to keep up with. :) )

I think it's reasonable to apply some sort of "volume test", when deciding whether or not to reply to any given comment.

I usually try to respond (eventually!) to all comments left in my personal LJ. Sometimes that means I only say "Thanks!" or "Me too!", but I like to let people know that I've read their comments. Of course, I have a fairly low volume of comments in my LJ, so it's not exactly a hardship. *grin*

On the other hand, I also post to some icon communities, and there I tend to get a fairly large number of replies. I used to try to say "Thanks!" to each of them, but sometimes that just gets unmanageable, particularly when comments are still being posted over a week or more later. Now I just reply to specific comments only if they have a specific question in them. After the first day or two, I post a separate comment of my own, thanking everyone else en masse.
