My sister just told me that House of Flying Daggers is coming out in Taiwan on Friday! I forgot I'd heard about this while Cannes was going on.

It's a wuxia movie! It's directed by Zhang Yimou!! Who did the very awesome Hero! And it stars Takeshi Kaneshiro and Zhang Ziyi!! Oh the eye candy.

And did I mention Zhang Yimou?

OMG SO COOL!

Except I'm here in California and who only knows when it'll be coming out in theatres here =(. Even Hero hasn't come out yet, grrr. I bet the DVD will be out in Taiwan before it's out here. Argh.

But if it's been released at Cannes, it means it must have had English subtitles, right? Or French, hrm. But if they have English subtitles, then I can make the boy watch it too!!

I saw "Sleeping Dragon Crouching Tiger" at cinemas in Australia, and they had English subtitles. But it's a bit weird though, the subtitles. I guess given its genre (wu-xia), some of the terms are hard to translate, like "manual" for "秘笈", and that's kinda...hmm. *g*

Yeah, the subtitles weren't so great... I saw it first in Taiwan and then again when it came out in America, and they would simplify the very formal ornate language into two words.

Makes me wonder how much I'm missing watching French movies subtitled.

I am a happy fangirl. Betcha any university Asian/Hong Kong Film society'll have a screening. Unfortnunately for me, I live in a backwater.

I know, that's the way I saw it. Netflix carries it, and I bet you yesasia.com also does.

As for House of Flying Daggers, it's being released by Sony Classics (who are also releasing the new Gong Li film) in December.

Oh, sorry, I was talking about House of Flying Daggers coming out on DVD... I always drop relevant pronoun antecendents, heh.

I have the Hero DVD from Taiwan *pets lovingly*.
