Random thoughts:

Listening to "It Sucks to Be Me" along with "Schadenfreude" makes me giggle at the irony.

I guess iconning goes along in trends like everything else does. It's weird because a lot of the ones I've seen lately in communities and whatnot are all this sort of monotonish color, very faded. It's a trend that drives me absolutely crazy (sort of like the low-low-waist pants). I think it's because I like bright colors and clear images, and it's really annoying when I have to squint at the icon for several seconds just to figure out who's in it, much less what they're doing or what the text is. Plus, as mentioned, I like colors and sharp images. The boy is perpetually amused whenever I walk through Target and see bright colors and go ooooooo. Particularly if they are plaid or polka dotted. I fear my aesthetic sensibilities are straight from the fifties, heh. Er. That was my random observation of the day.

Instead of doing useful stuff today, I went through my LJ memories and compiled a giant Excel list of books I have read this year. Never let it be said that I am not a total dork ;). Apparently, I've read a grand total of 97 so far, and yet I haven't even made a dent in the list of Books-To-Read. I rather like my list though -- I find myself sort of ogling at its lovely alphabetical-order-ness. It's very much like that satisfaction I get when I have an organized bookshelf with everything in the right place. The best part is the manga section of the store (which I am doing now, whoo), because the giant series all look the same and when they are organized, it is a quite satisfactory wall of books, all about the same size too.

Hrm. Maybe I was a librarian in a past life or something.

Yes, yes on the faded icons. Just because you have photoshop doesn't mean you have to fade everything and use every filter every time. Hee.

Are you a Virgo? It seems you have several of their qualities including organization? I do not have a database of my books yet although I find that idea very attractive and I would love to pursue. I read about one yesterday that uses the ISBN to log the books. You don't have to type anything, which thrills me to no end. I was a librarian in a past life. My living room, which is filled with overflowing bookshelves, is the memorial. They are in order by author and subject.

Argh to icons that make me squint and think, is that Buffy? Wait, no, Willow?

I'm actually Leo on the cusp on Cancer (according to my friend), but my sister is Virgo. I'm usually very messy as things go, but I like my books organized. I've got four bookcases now, one for sci-fi/f, one currently containing romance and school notebooks, and two with general, young adult, and non-fiction.

I think minus manga and graphic novels it comes to about 80 something...

Still, yikes! And I feel growly because I wish I read faster to get through the stacks of books waiting to be borrowed at the store -_-;;.

I'm averaging about one every three days but there's a fair amount of variance depnd on how many downloads or the type of book.

Oh definitely! YA goes so much faster. I also tend to read about five at a time, so the finishing time varies according to how excited I get.

I'm the same but with non fiction. Book to either suit or shift the mood.

(Just a weird side note, and not to be morbid or anything, but Ben had almost 24 hours with both his eyes shut, and boy, did that have us thinking about how much we both value being able to see...reading writing drawing, and lots of other basic stuff.)

Hee, books as mood-altering drugs ;).

Was that because of the concrete powder? Yikes. The most frustrating thing about eyeaches for me is the complete inability to do pretty much everything I enjoy doing -- reading, watching tv/movies, the occasional cross-stitching. It's frightening.

Actually, as odd as it is I have thought about it that way. Books are very powerful things, mood and mind altering.

The eye thing yes; but, we did get to listen to Prisoner of Azkaban on tape, and believe it or not I read to Ben for the first time in ages.. and had some really wonderful talks too.

I didn't realize you were having trouble with your eyes?

You know, I've never tried a book on tape.. I probably should at some point (I've heard the Lemony Snicket one is quite good).

Nothing really wrong with my eyes per se, but I can get some pretty bad eye aches or eye strain if I spend the entire day staring at a computer screen or book. My prescription might also be changing...
